Numerology is an ancient spiritual practice in which each number resonates with a specific mystical energy. It was independently created in Mesopotamia, India, and in China, and has evolved over time.  Because of this there are several different systems and interpretations, rather than a single eternal truth.  Numerology has influenced astrology as well as practices like Feng Shui.

At Moonrise Crystals, we prefer the Pythagorean system because of its link to the great Master Teacher.  The Greek genius Pythagoras was a key figure in the development of both mystical numerology and practical mathematics.  Today he is famous for his huge contributions to geometry, but he was also a inspired spiritual teacher.  According to Pythagoras, the number 1 represents perfection, creation, the Divine, and all that is good.

Find your Ruling Number

Add up all the individual numbers in your birthday.  Then add those numbers together.  Repeat until you have a single digit or a master number (11, 22, 33, etc.) For example, find the ruling number for February 2, 1988:

2/2/1988
2+2+1+9+8+8 = 28
2+8 = 10
1+0 = Ruling Number 1

Note: In the Pythagorean system, the number 1 is considered the Absolute Number, and all other numbers are seen in relation to it.  So a ruling number of 10 would be used rather than reducing it to 1.  The number 10 is a symbol of perfection and completion.

Find the corresponding number for each letter and then add up all the numbers.  For example: “Elena” is 5+3+5+5=1= 19. 1+9 = 10. 1+0 = Number 1.  Other names that add up to the number 1 are “Adam” and “Juan.”

This same method can be used to determine the numerology of a powerful word, for example, “Focus” = 6+6+3+3+1 =19. 1+9= 10. 1+0 = Number 1.  Other words that add up to the number 1 include “Dare” and “Liberty.”
