Supply Chain for Agatized Coral

This Agatized Coral comes from artisanal miners in Indonesia.  The exact deposit is unknown, but it is likely on Java or Sumatra.  Artisanal mining for agates is largely unregulated, but typically has a low environmental impact and is relatively low risk for miners.

This lapidary drum tumbles stones in Cape Town, South Africa. It is a family business, founded by a father and passed on to his sons. Factory workers have safe conditions and are paid fairly. The lapidary sells primarily at two gemshows, one in the United States and the other in France.

I have been doing business with this source since 2014. They are the oldest tumbling company in the world and have more varieties, in more sizes, than any other known source. The company started in California in the 1950s and was eventually bought by a British immigrant who had young sons. Eventually the company moved to South Africa in order to be closer to the source of their best-selling stone and to have the legal rights to export it. The company is now run by the sons and their childhood best friend.

The current owners personally visit many small and large mines. To connect with artisanal miners in sub-Sahara Africa, they work with local Gem Dealers who travel far into the bush to buy from part-time miners. The majority of these Gem Dealers are women. Some, but not all, of their stones are labeled with country-of-origin. For those that aren’t, I ask the owners directly. As I’ve learned more about mining practices in individual countries, I have become increasingly selective about what I will purchase from them. However, they remain my preferred source for most of the stones I sell from sub-Sahara Africa.

Agatized Coral Healing, Mineralogy, and History

Published February 2015  •  Updated August 2024  •  Read Time: 8 minutes
Agatized Coral is a type of fossil created by mineral preservation.  The original coral was submerged in water and covered up by sentiment, over thousands of years the organic material was gradually replaced by silica minerals on a cellular level.  The fossil that is created is incredibly detailed, preserving pattern and shape of the original marine creature  They can be white or brown, or brightly colored, often multicolored depending on which minerals preserved it.  Agatized Coral is a best choice for anyone wanting to work with Coral energy.  Wild Coral is not harvested in a sustainable manner and comes at a great environmental cost. I must say, I am beyond ecstatic to receive this package! It is so beautiful and incredible to me, the depths of care and effort you have put into the ethical and loving sourcing of these precious magical earth treasures. Reading through your entire website, bio, everything, lights my heart right up! I’m crying writing this haha! Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you :’) <333

Since the Agatized Coral isn’t flashy or blingy it might not seem direct light would bring out its looks, but does it ever. The subtle coral fossils become a lively crowd, some pale tan, some red. I’m asking this fascinating remnant of ancient sea life to keep me mindful that all of life is symbiotic.

I just wanted to thank you for the care taken with my order. I just received my crystals in the mail, and I already feel the beautiful positive flowing energy from them as I took each one out of the package. I’m looking forward to working with each of them.

Thank you so much! These stones are absolutely wonderful and so beautiful too! They are already working their magick, I feel closer to the ocean (even when I’m so far) and today we had our first rainfall in five weeks ending our terrible drought that was killing all the plants. Thank you so much for sending these loving gems to me.

I couldn’t be more blessed. This is my first time ordering from this shop, and I couldn’t be more satisfied, and jubilant. Julie is absolutely amazing to work with. Very well at communicating, loving, and very respectful. She has a gift, because this stone instantly connected to my energy. I couldn’t stop holding it. The energy was clean, and absolutely astounding. It has been on me every day since it arrived. In which it actually came a few days earlier than expected. Thank you again, Julie! I will definitely most defiantly be a returning costumer.

I placed a special order for some crystals with Julie for my niece who graduated with a BSc. in Marine Biology. Julie was so responsive and helpful in creating a beautiful and unique collection for my niece. She even went out to the ocean to see what “gift” the ocean would provide and sent along a lovely piece of coral as well. Julie is very knowledgeable and the crystals are gorgeous – with most included that I would not have thought of! She also put in detailed descriptions of each crystal. You cannot go wrong! Julie is so passionate about her work and it shows from every angle! Thank you, Julie for your kindness, thoroughness and patience — and for your huge collection of amazing crystals!

This was nice but it wasn’t the same color as the picture. I received a tan stone and not orange. I still like it a lot.

I loved all of the little details and markings on this stone! It’s beautiful!

Agatized Coral glows in sunset hues of red, orange, and yellow. When I choose one, my primary focus is on the subtle coral pattern that runs across it, since that’s what makes these stones truly fabulous! After verifying a good pattern, I then consider the color and shape of the stone. Vince ordered several different healing stones at one time, and when that happens I choose stones that I think look good together, in terms of color, shape and size. Usually that works out very well. In this case, however, it seems that the Agatized Coral was still a beautiful stone, but a different color than Vince had hoped for.

I always want to know if a stone isn’t “quite right” and will do whatever is needed to fix the situation. My first priority is to my customers and to makes sure they get the stone they want and need. If there is ever a specific color, shape or size that you need, please don’t hesitate to let me know ahead of time and I’ll do my best to accommodate you!
