Words cannot begin to describe the sensations and emotions that flowed through as I unwrapped and gleefully held each precious stone. When ordering from Moonrise crystals, I always spend a little extra knowing at least one stone will remain with me….at least for a bit. Others have traveled to the hands of friends and strangers who are baffled at how the stone mirrors their inner world. In those times, am simply the vessel that gets the crystals to their rightful keeper, and I’m grateful for the role (though not always easy🤣). Not once have I questioned the hands the crystals pass through or wonder if highly sensitive people like myself will struggle with any part of the energies. Grateful to the loving kindness, Julie, that you have filled your life and business with.

Supply Chain for Amazonite

This Amazonite was mined by artisanal miners in the Valley of the Apurímac in Peru.  Artisanal mining for feldspar minerals typically has a low environmental impact and would be relatively low risk for miners.  For this specific stone, the mining occurs in a geopolitical region dominated by the drug trade, specifically cocaine.  One of few alternative industries in the area is mining.  In some cases, the mining is used as a money laundering front for the drugs.  Moonrise Crystals has met with the miners in person and has had conversations specifically about this issue, for this specific stone as well as for Peruvian stones in general.

This mine and lapidary is a family-run business in Peru that specializes in hand-polished stones. One brother is in charge of the mining, exporting and sales. The other brother manages the lapidary in Lima, Peru. The business sells exclusively at gem shows in France, Germany and the United States.

I first met the owner of the mine and lapidary at the 2014 Tucson Gem Show. At that time, he was set up with a single table and the only major Gem Show he attended was in Tucson. While most lapidaries sell their polished stones in pre-packaged bags by the pound or kilo, this seller allowed me to cherry pick through his stock and buy only the best. Since then, his spot in Tucson has expanded to four tables under a tent and he now sells at two of the major European shows. It has been fun to watch our businesses grow. Every Tucson Show, we go out to dinner and eat Peruvian food together.

Amazonite Healing, Mineralogy, and History

Amazonite is a popular name for blue-green Microcline, a Feldspar mineral.  It is closely related to such popular stones as Moonstone and Sunstone, both of which are used to described a variety of shimmery Feldspar minerals.   The best pieces of Amazonite will have a vivid color as well as a silvery-white iridescence that dances along the surface when light moves across it.  It’s name is tribute to the Amazons, warrior-women that lived life by their own terms.  Unsurprisingly, this stone asks us to stand up and be counted.  It’s energy sings of courage and truth.  It is a phenomenal stone for anyone who is timid and needs to find their own voice.
