Healing Properities of Blue Aventurine

Spiritual: Blue Aventurine insists that we live in full integrity, where our walk matches our talk. It promotes taking responsibility for our life and the situations we create. It is also a stone of great courage and helps us to be willing to actually heal, rather than secretly wanting to stay stuck in our own story about being wounded. When we are in our integrity, Blue Aventurine will increase our natural psychic gifts and sensitivities. It encourages both the pursuit and the teaching of wisdom, making it an excellent stone for counselors and teachers of all sorts. Blue Aventurine empowers our communications, helping us to speak with precision and compassion. Blue Aventurine is attuned to the Heart and Third Eye Chakras and linked to the astrological sign of Aries. It is connected to the elements of Wind and Water and vibrates to the number 3.

Emotional: Blue Aventurine is a wonderful stone to work with when it is finally time to “grow up.” It is particularly good for anyone who has “Peter Pan” tendencies or plays the role of the eternal victim. Blue Aventurine empowers us to step into our power and take personal responsibility for ourselves and our future. This energy is very calming and helps us stand tall and serene, and be less affected by outside influences. Blue Aventurine brings courage and strength and teaches us that growing up doesn’t mean we will lose ourselves, rather it means we will have more opportunities for adventure and joy.

Mental: Blue Aventurine provides us with the confidence we need to handle new situations, such as changing jobs, schools, or homes. It is particularly useful in helping us to deal with changes due to aging, especially the transition into full maturity. Blue Aventurine encourages us to see life as an adventure and ourselves as pioneers, and that being a mature adult in our full power is a very desirable state. It reminds us that we have the power to do great things, and stimulates both our creativity and our leadership skills.

Physical: Blue Aventurine is thought to be an excellent stone for healing and regulating the physical heart and circulatory system. It is said to be particularly useful as a first aid stone for infants and children.  It is most often used by metaphysical healers to help break substance abuse habits. Its calming effect on the mind also makes it a valuable sleep aid.

Always use wisdom when considering crystal therapies for healing.

Mineral Family: Blue Aventurine is a type of Quartz, which is in turn a Silicate mineral. Silicate minerals form the largest family of minerals, including more than 25% of all known minerals and 40% of all common minerals. In addition to being a major part of the Earth’s crust, Silicate minerals have also been found on the moon and in meteorites. Silicates are minerals which contain the elements Silicon (a light gray shiny metal) and Oxygen (a colorless gas). Together, these two elements form a tetrahedron – a shape similar to a pyramid – with a Silicon atom in the center and Oxygen atoms at each of the four corners. These tetrahedra connect with other chemical structures, in six different ways, to form various minerals and rocks. There are six main groups of Silicate minerals, and these main groups are further subdivided into secondary subdivisions, such as Quartz and Feldspar. Quartz is a large mineral family in its own right, and has two main subdivisions, macrocrystalline (crystals that are large enough to be seen by the naked eye, for example, Amethyst) and microcrystalline (crystals so small they can only be seen through a microscope, for example, Agate). Aventurine is one of these macrocrystalline Quartzes. It is most commonly green, but may also be orange, pink, red, white or yellow.

Formation: Aventurine is created when liquid magma from a volcanic explosion cools down and transforms into igneous rock. During this cooling down period, silica acid bubbles shift from being a gas/liquid into a solid compound. The bubble becomes a hollow space in the igneous rock and the silica acid becomes Quartz crystals. Trace particles of Iron and Fuchsite (chromium mica) within the silica acid give Blue Aventurine its color and sparkle.

Mining: Typically mined from the primary deposits which still have their original relationship with the host rock. They are typically found as companion stones in commercial mines for various colored Quartzes, Calcite, and other gemstones.

Enhancements: All Aventurines on the market are natural, enhanced only by tumbling, cutting, and polishing.

History of Blue Aventurine

All colors of Aventurine may be considered relatively “new” healing stones whose properties have only recently begun to be explored. Aventurine was not included as a distinct mineral in most early lapidaries, texts which describe gemstones and their powers.

According to one modern lapidary, ancient Tibetan statues were often decorated with Aventurine, particularly for the eyes. Supposedly, this was to symbolically increase the statue’s visionary powers; whether this is a historically accurate statement or not is less clear.

The one thing we absolutely know about the history of Aventurine is how it got its name. It comes from the Italian a ventura, meaning “by chance.” The name actually refers to the 18th century discovery of Goldstone, a man-made sparkly glass, which is usually golden-orange or blue-purple. Goldstone has a distinctive sparkle. Natural Aventurine also sparkles, although less uniformly.

One of the ways that geologists identify stones is by their luster, or how light reflects off a stone. For example, Quartz has a Vitreous (like glass) luster, while Hematite has a Metallic luster, and Jade has a Waxy luster. A few stones have very special lusters, like Tigers Eye’s chatoyancy luster with is luminous moving bands and Labradorite’s iridescent luster (schiller effect) with its bright flashing colors.

On other special luster is “aventurescent” – the official term for stones that sparkle and glitter. Only two natural gemstones have this quality. Aventurine and Sunstone.

When we know better, we do better.

Ethical sourcing is a constantly evolving process.

If the original sourcing for the stone still passes Moonrise Crystals’ current standards, it will be restocked as soon as possible.

If the original sourcing is no longer acceptable, it will be restocked when/if a better supplier can be found.

Safe Handling of Blue Aventurine

Blue Aventurine contains Aluminum and as such should NOT be used to make direct-infusion “Blue Aventurine water” for drinking or bathing. Having too much Aluminum in the body is toxic, and drinking direct-infusion elixirs of Aluminum-derived stones is dangerous. You can however, make a safe elixir using an indirect method – simply place the stone near, but not touching, the water.

Good To Know:

Blue Aventurine are physically durable stones. As long as they are rounded and without thin edges, they can be carried in a pocket or medicine bag, or worn as jewelry on an everyday basis, without significant danger of the stone chipping or breaking.

Blue Aventurine can be physically cleansed with water or a dusting cloth.

Blue Aventurine can be energetically cleansed using any method. They will appreciate being soaked in fresh water, set outside to absorb the moonlight, and/or being smudged with smoke or incense. Use your own intuition to determine the best method.

Blue Aventurine can be left in sunshine for extended periods of time without losing their color, especially if the stone is opaque, rather than translucent or transparent. However, it is always considered a “best practice” to keep your stones and crystals out of direct sunlight as much as possible.

Julie is amazing and so are her crystals! I loved emailing with her about how I would use the stones and the particular shade of kunzite I hoped to get. Many online sellers “intuitively” choose your stones (randomly!) but Julie really does take the time to pick them for you, as if she were picking out just the right gift for a friend. It’s so great to know that none of these stones were mined by children or exploited workers. Her caring really comes through. Do not miss ordering from Moonrise!
