This is a beautiful stone, which was part of an order along with a septarian nodule (which I love), so most of my comments apply here as well. Julie's website is a wealth of information. Mahalo!

This Bornite comes from a small-scale Copper mine in Peru.

This mine and lapidary is a family business in Peru. The father owns a small Copper mine and the mining byproducts are polished and exported by a wholesale business managed by his son.

I purchased from this source a few times during the earlier years of my business. They sell a variety of polished stones from Peru, including tumbled stones. At first, the owner was never available while I was shopping. I spoke with various workers, but because of the language barrier, I got conflicting information. It was obvious to me that the source was closely linked with a Copper mine, based on the minerals and location. Research online seemed to link this source with a tech company in Hong Kong that makes a mining app for large industrial mines. I decided that I wouldn’t do business with them again unless I met the owner and got clear information.

In 2019, I finally met the owner, and happily, he is bilingual. He shared stories with me about his father who owns a Copper mine. Most Copper mines are large industrial mines owned by multi-national corporations. I was surprised but pleased to hear that this is a family-run business.

Bornite Healing, Mineralogy, and History

Bornite is a major ore for copper and is often found in industrial mines.  It can be brassy yellow because of the copper inside it, or more grey if it has a higher iron content.  But Bornite can also easily tarnish and when it does it displays a brilliant metallic rainbow and is nicknamed Peacock Ore.  Bornite was named after a Ignaz Von Born a Transylvanian scientist who put together the world’s first public Natural History museum.  Bornite has a happy and sensible energy that encourages us to actively work to improve the present and the future.  It reminds us that good things often take time to create and that the journey of one thousand miles, begins with a single step. The bornite is quite different from what I originally expected, and in a good way! I’m quite attracted to it. I love the gold/purplish black coloration. It feels really nice to hold.

    Nice stone.
