Healing Properties of Cavansite
Spiritual: Cavansite unlocks the door to our full potential and offers unwavering support when we need to move to the next level in our spiritual development. It helps us to find and connect with new teachers and spirit guides. It also helps us to comprehend the lessons we need to learn in order to grow. Cavansite stimulates our natural intuition and psychic powers. It is particularly good for improving visualization skills, whether it be in meditation, for clairvoyance, or to aid in energy work. Cavansite opens our mind to new insights, including Higher Truths that apply to all, and the Inner Truths that mark our own unique path. Cavnasite can also help us to find the words to properly express these truths to other people. In this way, our spiritual community grows with us, each person contributing something of value. Canvansite is attuned to the Third Eye and Crown Chakras, and linked to the astrological sign of Aquarius. It is connected to the Element of Wind and vibrates to the number 5.
Emotional: Cavansite has a joyful energy that sparks feelings of freedom and empowerment. It inspires curiosity and optimism about the future and reminds us that we have the power to change things for the better. Cavansite dissolves feelings of helplessness and hopelessness. It helps us to break free whenever we feel “stuck”. Cavansite helps us to make peace with our past and to concentrate our energy on creating a happier and healthier future. It is a particularly good stone to work with during and after a breakup, as it protects us from becoming cynical, jaded, or lost in the past. Cavansite inspires courage and kindness. It helps us to pay closer attention to what is happening around us and to be more thoughtful in our words and actions. Cavansite has a very pleasant energy, which can teach us how to be more pleasant and how to enjoy pleasure more.
Mental: Cavansite encourages us to use our mental powers efficiently and effectively. It lifts the fog of confusion and helps us to know which pathway to take, based on our current information. It helps us to discard old ideas, beliefs and habits that do not serve us and to be open to fresh perspectives and ways of life. When we are ‘blocked’ and unable to move forward, Cavansite helps us to safely revisit forgotten memories and emotions, and to heal and make peace with them. It helps us to see what needs attention, and then to swiftly and thoroughly do what needs to be done. Cavansite is an excellent talisman for teachers, writers, or anyone who needs to communicate information clearly and concisely. It helps us to go beyond simply giving information, and instead take it a further step to show others how the information is both relevant and actionable.
Physical: Cavansite is used by metaphysical healers to treat the endocrine system, particularly the pituitary and pineal glands. It is also used to treat the eyes and teeth and to stabilize erratic heart beats. It is believed to help reduce and prevent headaches caused by stressful situations. Cavansite is also said to be particularly good for psychic and distance healing, providing protection for the healer and preventing the disease from returning to the patient.

Mineralogy of Cavansite
Mineral Family: Phyllosilicates
Chemical Composition: Ca(VO)Si4O10.4H2O
Color: Blue, greenish-blue
Crystal System: Orthorhombic
Transparency: Transparent to translucent
Location: The best specimens of Cavansites come from Pune, India. Other notable deposits are located in Iceland, New Zealand, and the United States (Oregon)
Mineral Family: Cavansite is a carbonate Copper Silcate mineral. Silicate minerals are the largest family of minerals, including more than 25% of all known minerals and 40% of all common minerals. In addition to being a major part of the Earth’s crust, Silicate minerals have also been found on the moon and in meteorites. Silicates are minerals which contain the elements Silicon (a light gray shiny metal) and Oxygen (a colorless gas). Together, these two elements form a tetrahedron – a shape similar to a pyramid – with a Silicon atom in the center and Oxygen atoms at each of the four corners. These tetrahedra connect with other chemical structures, in six different ways, to form various minerals and rocks. There are six main groups of Silicate minerals, and these main groups are further subdivided into secondary subdivisions, such as Quartz and Feldspar. Cavansite belongs to the Phyllosilicate group, whose tetrahedra connect at three corners to form hexagonal rings. This group also includes such well-known minerals as Chrysocolla, Fuchsite, Lepidolte, Prehnite and Serpentine.
Formation: Cavansite is a rare secondary mineral found in igneous rocks like Basalt and Andesite. It is a small crystal which typically grows in balls or as bladed flowers.
Mining: Cavansite is mined at its primary location and is commonly found growing on top of or near by Apophyllite and Stilbite. In India, Cavansite is found inside commercial Basalt mines and is set aside to be sold as collectors pieces
Enhancements: All Cavansites are natural, enhanced only by tumbling, cutting, and polishing.
History of Cavansite
Cavansite is a rare crystal, first discovered in 1967. As such, it is not included in any older lapidary, texts that describe gemstones and their powers. Because of its rarity, Cavansite is mentioned in relatively few modern lapidaries, however it is becoming increasingly popular among metaphysical collectors. The original type specimen was found at Lake Owyhee State Park in Oregon, USA. Cavansite’s name is a derivation of its chemical composition, namely calcium vanadium silicate.
The largest known deposit of Cavansite, which also happens to produce the finest collector’s pieces, is in the Deccan Traps of India. The Deccan Traps are a massive igneous rock providence and one of the largest volcanic features on Earth. It is composed of layer upon layer of basalt, formed by numerous lava flows over a period of about 30,000 years.
The Deccan Traps were created 65 million years ago, coinciding with the massive extinction event at the end of the Cretaceous Period. Current scientific consensus is that the volcanic eruptions were actually caused by the Chicxulub Impact Event – a large asteroid/comet that hit North America. The shock waves from this impact triggered earthquakes and volcanoes around the world. The climate destruction caused by the impact itself and the resulting volcanic activity, created a sunlight-blocking global winter which killed off 75% of the earth’s species, including all non-Avian dinosaurs.

Learn More: Ethical Lapidary
I first met one of the owners of the lapidary at the Denver Gem Show in 2017. Our first encounter was short since it was my last day of shopping and I had already spent most of my budget. But their tumbled stock was the highest quality I had ever seen. A few months later we met again in Tucson and this time I made sure to see them at the beginning of the show!
In 2019, at the Tucson Gem Show, I was able to sit down with both owners and have a lengthy conversation about sourcing. Unlike most vendors, they were willing to speak with me in-depth about how they make sure their business is ethical. We discussed the individual mines they source from in India, as well as about how they source from mines in other countries. We also talked about how they treat their own workers and about the links between business, karma and God. Their willingness to talk and their pleasure at the conversation makes me eager to continue to develop and deepen this relationship.
