Healing Properities of Banded Amethyst

Spiritual: Banded Amethyst combines the high spirituality of Amethyst, the incredible power of Clear Quartz, and the gentle support of Snow Quartz, creating a unique energy for self-reflection and personal growth. It provides us with the love and strength we need to follow our spiritual callings and can be used to heighten intuition and psychic gifts. Banded Amethyst helps us to accept unseen forces and tap into their power. As a result, it makes a particularly good healing stone for anyone interested in spiritual/energetic healing, such as Reiki. Banded Amethyst is attuned to the Third Eye and Crown Chakras and linked to all astrological signs.  It is connected to all the elements and vibrates to the number 7.

Emotional: Banded Amethyst breaks up negative energy, allowing it to be shaken off the aura. It has a warm and soft energy, which is gentler than pure Amethyst, helping us to feel cozy and safe. Banded Amethyst is helpful for identifying the root causes behind negative behaviors and emotional patterns so we can make effective changes. Best of all, Banded Amethyst teaches us to stop resisting those things which serve our Highest Good, thus allowing us to truly embrace the life and self that will bring us the greatest satisfaction and contentment.

Mental: Banded Amethyst encourages clarity as well as positivity. It helps us to see that there is a positive solution for every problem and that struggle is not always required. It is a wonderful stone for manifestation, helping us move from merely thinking and talking about the things we wish to accomplish, to actively engaging in the work. Banded Amethyst assists in understanding abstracts, making it a useful stone for philosophers and scientists alike.

Physical: Banded Amethyst is said to reduce pain, tension, bruising and swelling. It is most often used by metaphysical healers to relieve headaches and insomnia. Banded Amethyst is thought to clear the aura and transmute any dysfunctional energy located within the physical body, making Banded Amethyst a wonderful healing stone for general health maintenance and preventive care.

Always use wisdom when considering crystal therapies for healing.

Mineral Family: Banded Amethyst is a type of Amethyst, the purple variety of Quartz, which is in turn a Silicate mineral. Silicate minerals are the largest family of minerals, including more than 25% of all known minerals and 40% of all common minerals. In addition to being a major part of the Earth’s crust, Silicate minerals have also been found on the moon and in meteorites. Silicates are minerals which contain the elements Silicon (a light gray shiny metal) and Oxygen (a colorless gas). Together, these two elements form a tetrahedron – a shape similar to a pyramid – with a Silicon atom in the center and Oxygen atoms at each of the four corners. These tetrahedra connect with other chemical structures, in six different ways, to form various minerals and rocks. There are six main groups of Silicate minerals, and these main groups are further subdivided into secondary subdivisions, such as Quartz and Feldspar. Quartz is a large mineral family in its own right and its members come in every shade of the rainbow. Colorless Quartz is called Clear Quartz or Rock Crystal. Yellow Quartz is Citrine. Green Quartz is Prasiolite. Brown Quartz is Smoky Quartz. Pink Quartz is, of course, Rose Quartz. The most highly prized variety of all is Amethyst, or purple Quartz. Amethyst ranges from light violet to darkest purple. Banded Amethyst is a type of Amethyst in which multiple shades of purple can be seen in distinctive stratification, along with transparent Clear Quartz and/or white Snow Quartz.

Formation: Banded Amethyst is created when liquid magma from a volcanic explosion cools down and transforms into igneous rocks. During this cooling down period, silica acid bubbles shift from being a gas/liquid into a solid compound. The bubble becomes a hollow space in the igneous rock and the silica acid becomes Quartz crystals. Trace particles of iron within the silica acid gives Amethyst its purple color, otherwise the silica acid would transform into Clear Quartz. Chevron Amethyst is created when a single bubble cools down at various rates, resulting in varying shades of purple. Bubbles which contain smaller levels of iron produce Banded Amethysts with Clear Quartz and Snow Quartz stratification.

Mining: Amethyst is a highly desirable and relatively common semi-precious stone. As a result, it is the primary focus for numerous mines located around the world. While the primary focus of these mines is pure purple Amethyst, Banded Amethyst is also mined as a matter of course.

Enhancements: Lab-created deep purple Amethyst is widely available in the fine gemstone market and is primarily used for jewelry. By contrast Banded Amethysts are fully natural, enhanced only by tumbling, cutting, and polishing.

Synonym: Chevron Amethyst

History of Banded Amethyst

Banded Amethyst is a relatively “new” healing stone whose properties have only recently begun to be explored. As a result, it was not included in early lapidaries, texts which describe gemstones and their powers. There are no known historical traditions specifically relating to Banded Amethyst, but pure Amethyst has a long and detailed history.

For more information, see Amethyst, Clear Quartz and Snow Quartz.

Sourcing Relationship

I have been doing business with this source since 2014.  They are the oldest tumbling company in the world and have more varieties, in more sizes, than any other known source.  The company started in California in the 1950s and was eventually bought by a British immigrant who had young sons.  Eventually the company moved to South Africa in order to be closer to the source of their best-selling stone and to have the legal rights to export it.  The company is now run by the sons and their childhood best friend.

The current owners visit many small and industrial-size mines personally.  For artisanal-mined deposits in sub-Sahara Africa, the owners work with Gem Dealers who deal directly with the part-time miners.  The majority of these Gem Dealers are women.  Some, but not all, of their stones are labeled with country-of-origin.  For those that aren’t, I ask the owners directly.  As I’ve learned more about mining practices in individual countries, I have become increasingly selective about what I will purchase from them.  However, they remain my preferred source for most of the stones I sell from sub-Sahara Africa.

Julie is pure light, joy. She took the time to speak with me and help me choose stones to help my body and mind to focus, be loved. There will be hard times, or past trama PTSD, but with breathing exercises holding my black tourmaline during a difficult time helps me alot. Then when I am ready to focus or be energized I reach for my ocean jasper or peridot. Each and every stone has a meaning, a purpose in there own to help us, boost us up in times in need. I am in love with my stones and you will be also! Especially once you speak with Julie. Again thank you.
