Healing Properties of Jaguar Stone

Spiritual: Jaguar Stone is a dynamic healing crystal that can help us achieve our most lofty goals. It has a strong and warm grounding energy that helps us to feel safe and competent.  Jaguar Stone is remarkably versatile, helping us to be comfortable pursuing numerous paths, both spiritual and secular, without feeling out-of-balance or in conflict.  Jaguar Stone reminds us that we are highly capable and to trust ourselves to make good choices and correct ourselves as needed.  It roars with approval every time we dare to stand up for ourselves and others.  It loudly demands that we work, not just wish, to make the world a kinder and more just place.  Jaguar Stone is attuned to the Root, Sacral, and Heart Chakras and linked to the astrological signs of Capricorn and Leo. It is connected to the element Earth and vibrates to the number 6.

Emotional: Jaguar Stone ignites a bright and powerful courage in our lives.  It first and foremost, helps us to take responsibility for ourselves and our actions.  It also helps us to take better care of our own; whether that means our family, our community or even the whole wide world.  Jaguar Stone gives us great heart, so we can love freely, deeply and widely.  Like all Jaspers, Jaguar Stone has a strong nurturing energy.  In the case of Jaguar Stone specifically, this nurturing resembles a mama cat protecting her young from harm and giving them the lessons they need to become powerful and successful adults.  Jaguar Stone has a highly protective energy field, which provides a subtle “don’t mess with me” vibration that helps keep negative people at a distance.  Jaguar Stone increases our self-confidence, while reducing any urge to sulk, brag, or act poorly.  It encourages us to feel like and act like our best selves.

Mental: Jaguar Stone encourages us to be ruthless honest with ourselves and to banishes illusions and delusions.  Rather than wishing life was different or trying to rewrite past events to show ourselves in a better light, Jaguar Stone gives us the courage to accept what truly is.  Jaguar Stone helps us to be mentally brave; willing to look at the “hard stuff”, accept responsibility when appropriate and make tough decisions. It reminds us that we don’t have to enjoy reality, but we do need to acknowledge it.  When we are honest about the past and our current situation, we can then make different choices and create a new future reality that is more to our satisfaction.  Jaguar Stone sparks creative problem-solving and ingenuity.

Physical: Jaguar Stone is recommended for increasing physical prowess and confidence.   Jaguar Stone helps us to reach our apex power so we can run faster, jump higher, hit harder, and be agile in any environment.  It encourages us to train our body well, for strength and mobility, so we can be ready for any challenge.  Jaguar Stone pushes us to commit to daily physical movement and to get rid of bad habits like smoking and unhealthy food choices.  In the bedroom, Jaguar Stone helps us to have confidence in our sexual performance and to have more fun.

Always use wisdom when considering crystal therapies for healing.

Rock Family: Jaguar Stone is not a mineral, but rather a rock. As an easy way to understand the difference, think of rocks as being like cookies and minerals as being the ingredients which make up those cookies. Many different minerals are used to create a rock!

Formation: Jaguar Stone is a form of Rhyolite, a type of igneous rock. Rhyolite is a type of extrusive igneous rock, formed on the surface of the earth by molten magma due to a volcanic eruption. There are five types of igneous rocks created by lava: Basalt, Obsidian, Rhyolite, Trachyte, and Andesite. Other types of igneous rocks, such as Granite, are created by processes deep within the earth. Rhyolite is a relatively rare volcanic rock, almost exclusively found in the interiors of continents. Most Rhyolites are porphyritic and contain large Quartz crystals or other varieties of crystals in an extremely fine-grained matrix. This indicates that these crystals were already being formed before the lava flowed onto the surface. Jaguar Stone is a popular name given to spotted Rhyolite found in North and South America.

Mining: Mined at its primary deposit, usually found with Obsidian and Pumice.

Enhancements: All varieties of  Rhyolite, including Jaguar Stone, Leopardskin Jasper, Ocean Jasper, and Rainforest Jasper are fully natural, enhanced only by tumbling, cutting and polishing.

Synonyms: Rhyolite, Leopardskin Jasper

History of Jaguar Stone

Jaguar Stone and Leopdardskin Jasper are marketing names used to describe a variety of spotted stones. The name Leopardskin Jasper is best used for the stones mined in Africa, Europe and Asia.  While Jaguar Stone should be used for stones mined in North and South America.

Jasper is included in many lapidaries, specific varieties like these have only recently been explored by metaphysical collectors. The name “Leopardskin Jasper” or “Jaguar Stone” is, of course, due to the spots which decorate this pretty stone.

Sourcing Relationship

I first met the owner of the mine and lapidary in 2014 at the Gem and Mineral Show in Tucson, Arizona.  At that time, he was set up with a single table and the only major Gem Show he attended was in Tucson.  While most lapidaries sell their tumbled stone in pre-packaged bags by the pound or kilo, this seller allowed me to cherry pick through his stock and buy only the best.  Since then, his spot in Tucson has expanded to four tables under a tent and he now sells at two of the major European shows.  It has been fun to watch our businesses grow.

In 2018, I asked the owner if he would be willing to help connect me with a rural school in Peru near his mine.  I told him that I wanted to “give back” to the communities that provided these beautiful crystals.  He was pleased by my request and later that year introduced me to the principle of a suitable Peruvian school.  We hope to begin supporting this school in the 2021-2022 school year.

The jaguar stone is huge and really cool! The markings are really interesting with multiple concentric shapes and different colors. The markings are more chaotic than the leopard skin jasper.
