Healing Properties of Kambamba Jasper
Spiritual: Kambamba Jasper has a beautiful nurturing energy that gently dissolves negative energy and cleanses the aura. It is a stone for spiritual confidence and helps us be in alignment with our own ancestral wisdom and deep earth wisdom. It helps us stay grounded and serene, even during challenge times. Kambamba Jasper is attuned to the Root and Heart Chakra and linked to the astrological signs of Leo and Virgo. It is connected to the element of Earth and vibrates to the number 6 and 8.
Emotional: Kambamba Jasper is a soothing crystal which activates the heart chakra and helps us to find emotional balance. It is particularly useful for helping us to find a new sense of balance during and directly after intense situations. It can also help us to let go of any emotional/mental obsession or trauma. This makes it a particularly good stone to have after breakups or during times of grieving as it can help us to make peace with what is and to move forward in our life. It is a stone that reminds us that we are meant to be happy, that life goes on, and that we need to go on too.
Mental: Kambamba Jasper helps us stay calm and to focus on what is important. It is especially good at helping re-direct thoughts away from the negative and towards the positive. As a result, it can also help reduce nightmares. Kambamba Jasper also works to increase prosperity and money flow, especially in the context of careers or already-established business ventures. It helps us to avoid unnecessary changes and remain stable and on course.
Physical: Kambamba Jasper is said to be a powerful stone for treating conditions at a cellular level and has been used to treat cancer, HIV, and other diseases. It is also commonly used to treat skin disorders and reduce inflammation and bloating. Kambamba Jasper is additionally used for fertility and to help ensure a healthy pregnancy, especially during the critical first trimester.
Always use wisdom when considering crystal therapies for healing.
Mineralogy of Kambamba Jasper
Rock Type: Igneous Rock (Rhyolite)
Major Minerals: Aegirine, Albite, Amphiboles K Feldspar, and Quartz
Color: Green with black markings
Texture: Laminated layers
Location: The vast majority of Kambamba Jasper sold the marketplace comes from the Norcross-Madagascar deposit. However, there have been reports of another deposit in South Africa.
Rock Family: Kambamba Jasper is not a mineral, but rather a Rhyolite, an igneous rock. As an easy way to understand the difference, think of rocks as being like cookies and minerals as being the ingredients which make up those cookies. Many different minerals are used to create a rock! In the case of Kambamba Jasper, the minerals that compose it include Aegirine, Albite, Amphiboles K Feldspar, and Quartz.
Formation: Despite its name, Kambamba Jasper is not actually a type of Jasper, but rather a Rhyolite. Rhyolite is a type of extrusive igneous rock, formed on the surface of the earth by molten magma due to a volcanic eruption. There are five types of igneous rocks created by lava: Basalt, Obsidian, Rhyolite, Trachyte, and Andesite. Other types of igneous rocks, such as Granite, are created by processes deep within the earth. Rhyolite is a relatively rare volcanic rock, almost exclusively found in the interiors of continents. Most Rhyolites are porphyritic and contain large Quartz crystals or other varieties of crystals in an extremely fine-grained matrix. This indicates that these crystals were already being formed before the lava flowed onto the surface. Kambamba Jasper is a popular name given to green Rhyolite with black spots. The green areas are due to the presence of Aegirine, a dark green to black mineral and K-Feldspar, which in Madagascar is often pale-green, blue-green, or yellow-green. The black spots are Amphiboles minerals such as Riebeckite and Paragasite.
Mining: Mined at it’s primary deposit. The majority of Kambamba Jasper comes from the Norcross-Madagascar deposit near the town of Tsiroanomandidy.
Enhancements: All Kambamba Jasper is completely natural, enhanced only by tumbling, cutting and polishing.
Synonyms: Crocodile Jasper. May also be incorrectly sold as Nebula Stone or as a Stromatolite (see History tab for more information).
History of Kambamba Jasper
The name “Jasper” is a generic name given to any spotted stone as well as most semi-transparent or opaque Chalcedony. Despite its name, Kambamba Jasper is not a true Jasper, but rather a Rhyolite. Rhyolite is a type of extrusive igneous rock, formed on the surface of the earth by molten magma due to a volcanic eruption. The name “Kambamba” seems to be a based on the word “Mamba”, the malagasy word for crocodile. This stone is also commonly sold as “Crocodile Jasper”.
For many years, many mineral and healing crystal resources stated that Kambamba Jasper was a Stromatolite – a sedimentary rock with cyanobacteria fossils. However, that has been proven false by EPI, a German geoscience consulting group, who were able to determine the exact mineral composition of the rock. Kambamba Jasper has a similar mineral composition as Nebula Stone, a green and black Rhyolite found in Mexico. A simple way to tell the difference is that Kambamba Jasper is mostly green with black spots, while Nebula Stone is mostly black with green spots.

Learn More: Ethical Lapidary
I first met the owner of the lapidary at the 2006 Gem and Mineral show in Tucson, Arizona. At that time I was working for a crystal shop in Utah and was at Tucson primarily as a “pack mule” to help carry all the stones. It was generally agreed by our crew that the “Madagascar” tent contained the most beautiful stones in the entire show.
In 2014, I embarked on my first buying trip for Moonrise Crystals. The company I knew of only as “Madagascar” was the one company I was most determined to find and buy from. This lapidary company only sells at a handful of major gem shows. The only time they are in the USA is for the Tucson Gem Show. During the rest of the year, the lapidary hand polishes their stock and also does charity work in their local community. They continue to offer some of the most beautiful tumbled stones in the industry and are among my favorite suppliers.
In 2019, Moonrise Crystals and the Madagascar lapidary company joined together to financially support a rural school in Madagascar.
