Libyan Desert Glass
Energy Vibrations

While most people know it as Libyan Desert Glass, this pretty golden gem is also called Great Sand Sea Glass and can be found in both Libya and Egypt. This particular stock comes from Egypt and was purchased specifically for its short and legal supply chain. Egyptian Glass often has a greenish-yellow tint. Some of these are yellow and some have that greenish color, if you have a preference please mention that in an Order Note during checkout.

Ethically Sourced

Libyan Desert Glass from Egypt

This Libyan Desert Glass comes from the Great Sand Sea, near Siwa, Egypt.  The majority of Libyan Desert Glass is sold to Morocco without any paperwork.  This particular inventory comes from the Egyptian side of the border and has legal paperwork. Libyan Desert Glass is found largely by chance and has a low environmental impact and is safe for miners.

This supplier is a small wholesaler who specializes in only a few gems, including Libyan Desert Glass.  His source is the Egyptian miner and he was able to share specific details from an ethics perspective.

I met this supplier at the 2022 Denver Show.  One of the gems on my Wish List was Libyan Desert Glass and I was actively on the hunt for it.  I had already spoken to a few potential suppliers and dismissed them from an ethics perspective.  The story I kept hearing was that the main supplier in the industry is a Moroccan wholesaler.  That supplier lives more than 1000 miles from the source and it seems likely that this rare yellow gem is being traded without proper legal paperwork.  When I met my supplier, I asked about his source and was delighted to learn it was Egyptian miner in the Great Sand Sea with the legal rights to mine and trade.  We happily discussed ethical issues openly, which is rare and refreshing.

Libyan Desert Glass is a rare tektite found in the Sahara Desert, on the border between Libya and Egypt.  While it is always yellow, this gem is has a slight hint of green when found in Egypt, and is a purer yellow when found in Libya.  Tekites are a type of natural glass that is created when a meteorite strikes the earth.  The sudden heat and pressure of the strike, instantly melts the impact zone and sends molten silica clouds into the air.  As the silica re-hardens, it falls back to the earth as Tektites.  Libyan Desert Glass was prized in Ancient Egypt and is associated with solar gods and goddesses.  It is an incredible stone for […]

What a gorgeous bundle – thank you!

I was floored by the crystals you choose for me- they are stunning! The Libyan Desert glass was just as warm and glowing as expected. I think its a sign my solar plexus chakra could use some attention. I didn’t realize just how special and meteoric they were when I purchased.

  3. OJ N. (New York)

Thank you, thank you, thank you! My beautiful crystals came yesterday. The tektites feel so good, as does the Libyan desert glass.

  4. Bailie C. (Nebraska)

I really like the libyan desert glass, the color is very similar to the color of sand so it is like having a piece of the desert in a solid form
