This Merlinite comes from a small claim in New Mexico, USA. The miner has been working his claim for decades using hand tools and small machinery. It has a low environmental impact and is relatively low risk for the miner. This Merlinite was traded, rather than sold. Every year the miner from New Mexico brings a 5 gallon bucket of rough Merlinite to the Danish prospector at the Tucson Gem Show and says, “wanna trade?” The exchange is always Merlinite for Nuummite.

Merlinite is a tradename for a fusion of white Quartz and black Managnese oxide. Originally, this name was only used for crystals mined in New Mexico, USA. However, a similar deposit has since been found in Cornwall, Great Britain and in Eskişehir, Turkey. Cornwall is closely associated with the legendary Merlin and was the birthplace of King Arthur.
