Healing Properties of Peach Moonstone

Spiritual: All Moonstone evokes the Goddess and the energy of the Moon.  Peach Moonstone is warm and bright, like moonlight on a hot summery evening.  It is a time of sensual celebration and vibrant psychic power. As a stone of new beginnings, it shines brightly, illuminating our visions and dreams, and helping us to chart a clear path forward in our lives. Peach Moonstone activates the Kundalini Serpent and encourages us to explore tantric sexuality as a means of worship and sacred connection. Moonstone is attuned to the Sacral, Third Eye, and Crown Chakras and linked to the astrological signs of Cancer, Libra, Scorpio. It is connected to the element of Wind; and vibrates to the number 4.

Emotional: Peach Moonstone was a warm feminine energy which can help us to better understand our emotions.  It gently shows us how to create a steady sense of internal safety and grounding, so that we don’t feel overwhelmed by our emotions or the situations we find ourselves in.  It teaches emotional intelligence and helps us to navigate uncomfortable emotional terrain with ease.  It also helps us to feel comfortable enough to be emotionally vulnerable in a healthy relationship. Peach Moonstone strengthens feminine intuition, especially as it pertains to relationships of all sorts. Peach Moonstone also teaches us the value of patience, encouraging us to wait for the “right time” rather than trying to force something to come to pass.  It joyfully invites us to be open-hearted and receptive to all blessings.

Mental: Peach Moonstone is a stone of sudden inspiration and intuitive knowing. It encourages us to be open to serendipity and spontaneity, and to trust that everything is working out according to a higher Divine plan. Peach Moonstone calms overreactions and helps us to logically and intuitively explore emotional triggers and other erratic energies.  It is especially useful for anyone who has always accepted emotions as being “true” without checking to see if the emotions accurate match the situation.  For example, does the level of anger or fear that we are experiecing a match for what is actually happening in real life? Or is the emotion larger or smaller than it should be from a logical perspective?   Peach Moonstone gently helps us to test our emotions and lean into reality.

Physical: Peach Moonstone is recommended for young people going through puberty.  It helps moderate emotional responses to fluctuating hormones and helps us to consciously recognize how chemical reactions in the physical body affect our perceptions of the world.  It is especially good for young women who are adjusting to new monthly rhythms. Peach Moonstone is especially soothing during PMS when emotions feel so valid, even if they are actually an exaggeration.  Peach Moonstone is also a sweet talisman for anyone, at any age, that is feeling emotional sensitive and triggered because of major changes to the body.

Always use wisdom when considering crystal therapies for healing.

Mineral Family: Moonstone is a term used to describe a variety of Feldspar minerals, which all belong to the Silicate Family. Silicate minerals form the largest family of minerals, including more than 25% of all known minerals and 40% of all common minerals. In addition to being a major part of the Earth’s crust, Silicate minerals have also been found on the moon and in meteorites. Silicates are minerals which contain the elements Silicon (a light gray shiny metal) and Oxygen (a colorless gas). Together, these two elements form a tetrahedron – a shape similar to a pyramid – with a Silicon atom in the center and Oxygen atoms at each of the four corners. These tetrahedra connect with other chemical structures, in six different ways, to form various minerals and rocks. There are six main groups of Silicate minerals, and these main groups are further subdivided into secondary subdivisions, such as Quartz and Feldspar. Moonstone is the name used for several types of Feldspar which show a white iridescence when cut properly. Most Moonstones are technically Anothroclase, but they can also be Orthoclase, Sanidine, Albite, Oligoclase, or Adularia. These stones are closely related to several other shimmering minerals such as Amazonite, Sunstone and Labradorite.

Formation: Moonstone can be formed through igneous, sedimentary, or metamorphic processes. Its most famous feature is an iridescence which may be white/silvery, blue, or a rainbow. This shimmer is called the “schiller effect” and is caused by tiny layers of various Feldspar minerals (most notably Albite) which are laid down during the crystallization process.

Mining: Typically mined from primary deposits which still have their original relationship with the host rock. Many Moonstone mines are small operations, small shafts dug out by hand.

History of Peach Moonstone

Moonstone has been a prized gemstone for centuries. Unlike most healing stones, Moonstone isn’t a single mineral or a rock, but rather the title given to a variety of Feldspars that show a shimmering iridescence. Most Moonstones are white or cream-colored, but they can also be black.  Moonstone has been closely associated with the moon since antiquity.

Sourcing Relationship

I first met this wholesaler on the last day of the 2017 Denver Gem Show.  I took one glance at their booth and realized that we buy from many of the same sources.  We also love the same size of stones and the same high quality.  But while virtually every other source sells in bulk bags, this wholesaler allows me to handpick the best and leave the rest.  We are usually pretty good at playing by the rules of the mineral industry and don’t discuss sourcing.  But I know.  And they know, I know.  And I know, they know, I know.   We’re a very knowledgeable group.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, this relationship has deepened considerably since I have been able to restock with them when it’s impossible to buy from my usual suppliers in South Africa and China.  This wholesaler has built up a considerable crystal stockpile that they are sharing with me.  They invite me to their home and allow me to handpick for hours.  When the shopping is done, we share a bottle of wine and talk.  Lately we’ve been breaking the rules of the industry – we’re talking quietly but openly about ethical sourcing.
