Ethically Sourced Muscovite

When we know better, we do better. Ethical sourcing is a constantly evolving process. If the original sourcing for the stone still passes Moonrise Crystals’ current standards, it will be restocked as soon as possible. If the original sourcing is no longer acceptable, it will be restocked when/if a better supplier can be found.

Know where your crystals come from

This Muscovite comes from a mine in Madagascar.

This gem dealer is a female-owned business that specializes in large Amethyst geodes. The business also sells a few stones polished in China.

I first met this source at the 2006 Tucson Gem Show. At that time, I was working for a crystal shop in Utah and was at Tucson primarily as a “pack mule” to help carry all the stones. The business specializes in exquisite Amethyst geodes and large stone statues. The owner is an energy-worker who has worked with many celebrities. Since they didn’t carry tumbled stones, I took no note of them when I started my own business.

In 2018, my usual source for Black Tourmaline was sold out and I happened to run into my old boss. She quietly gave me a wink and a nod, and sent me to “the statue tent.” While their basic business had not changed, they now sell a variety of small polished stones as well. The amount of middlemen involved does give me pause. I only purchase stones from this source if I can’t find the stone elsewhere and I am confident about mining and lapidary conditions in the country of origin.

Muscovite Healing, Mineralogy, and History

Published May 2018  •  Updated December 2022  •  Read Time: 7 minutes
Muscovite is another name for common mica.  It it’s purest form, it is a fragile gem that grows in thin sheets.  Long before glass was used in windows, Muscovite sheets served the same purpose.  But the mineral it is often found mixed with a little Quartz or Feldspar transforming it into a sturdy little rock with a gorgeous glitter.  Muscovite is usually white or silver, but can be bright red,  purple, green or yellow due to trace amounts of various elements.  Energetically, clears the mind and helps us to problem-solve and understand complex subjects more easily.  It encourages us to trust our instincts and to move forward with confidence. Thank you for my latest batch. It was very generous of you to send such a large, gorgeously sparkly muscovite, and the charoite is especially captivating. ❤️
