Ethically Sourced Pietersite

Know where your crystals come from

This Pietersite was comes from a mine in Nanyany, China.

This gem dealer is a female-owned business that specializes in large Amethyst geodes. The business also sells a few stones polished in China.

I first met this source at the 2006 Tucson Gem Show. At that time, I was working for a crystal shop in Utah and was at Tucson primarily as a “pack mule” to help carry all the stones. The business specializes in exquisite Amethyst geodes and large stone statues. The owner is an energy-worker who has worked with many celebrities. Since they didn’t carry tumbled stones, I took no note of them when I started my own business.

In 2018, my usual source for Black Tourmaline was sold out and I happened to run into my old boss. She quietly gave me a wink and a nod, and sent me to “the statue tent.” While their basic business had not changed, they now sell a variety of small polished stones as well. The amount of middlemen involved does give me pause. I only purchase stones from this source if I can’t find the stone elsewhere and I am confident about mining and lapidary conditions in the country of origin.

Pietersite Healing, Mineralogy, and History

Published May 2018  •  Updated July 2022  •  Read Time: 5 minutes
Pietersite is a rare multicolored crystal closely related to Tigers Eye.  Both stones get their coloring when a naturally blue stone is exposed to the air, and the iron inside oxidizes red and then eventually transforms into a golden stone.  For Tigers Eye, this process is smooth and creates straight stripes in a single color.  Pietersite is created when a geological disturbance causes the stone to be folded, fractured, and woven back together.  Instead of monochromatic stirpes, a kaleidoscope of shifting colors appears.  Pietersite is a stone of new beginnings.  Its energy helps us feel steady during times of chaos, conflict, and change. Tumbled Pietersite

What You’ll Receive: 1 Stone - 100% natural Pietersite

Selection Process: The stone I select for you will be carefully chosen for its beauty and appeal. If combined with other stones, I always take time to choose stones that look and feel good together.

Polishing Method: Drum polished; small pieces of the matrix rock are knocked off during the tumbling process leaving scratches and tiny cavities. Each stone is unique and minor variations are what makes them beautiful.

Color: Multi-colored; mostly red, yellow, and blue.

My first piece of pietersite, beautiful! Very thankful. My order came with a velvet bag (which happened to be in my favorite color, purple!), information on ethics and cards for each stone, a pen, and a yummy tea blend. Thank you so much!

  3. Janet N. (Texas) (verified owner)

Thank you so much for your help through this process. I’m excited to welcome them into my life. I’ve waited 7 years for the right stones. I’m both excited and a little nervous to see where the journey takes us.

I just received it and am already amazed at its energy :) I can’t wait to work with it!!!
