Healing Properties of Prehnite Epidote
Spiritual: Prehnite Epidote sings with a very high energy for transformation and creation. It raises our vibration so that we are happier, more peaceful, and feel truly empowered. It helps us to walk, talk, think and feel like our Highest Self. Prehnite Epidote helps us to let go of anything that holds us back from enjoying life right now. It ignites within us a fire of passion and integrity, which helps us to pursue our dreams and make good things happen. It amplifies our manifestation powers, especially when we are consciously manifesting something that serves the Highest Good. Prehnite Epidote teaches us how to live in a way that is healthy and delightful. It helps us to be more open to spiritual guidance, particularly messages specifically meant to heal us or enrich our lives. It is among the very best stones for developing and deepening meditation practices. Prehnite Epidite is attuned to the ALL the Chakras and is particularly good for the Solar Plexus and Heart Chakras. It is linked to the astrological sign of Gemini and Libra. It is connected to the element of Earth and Water and vibrates to the numbers 2 and 5.
Emotional: Prehnite Epidote aligns us with the immense power of unconditional love. It gently clears away “heavy” emotions such as grief, anger, and exhaustion. It carries us towards peaceful thoughts and deep relaxation. Prehnite Epidote helps us to stop taking things so personally and to keep a sense of proportion during stressful times. It encourages us to be forgiving and to let go of grudges. It also invites us to question our emotional beliefs and habits and be willing to make changes as needed. Prehnite Epidote strongly encourages us to resist the impulse to indulge in self-pity or victimization. Prehnite Epidote reminds us that suffering is an inevitable part of life, but it doesn’t have to be the energy that we personally choose to carry with us. Prehnite Epidote helps us to re-write the stories that we tell about ourselves and about the world we live in. It helps us create and believe in kinder and more honest stories. Prehnite Epidote has a hopeful and grounding energy which helps us to accept others as they are and to have confidence in ourselves.
Mental: Prehnite Epidote is a wonderful tool to help us be more mindful. It encourages us to stay in the present moment for the majority of the day and to resist the impulse to engage in negative imaginings, such as ruminating on the past or visualizing a disastrous future. Prehnite Epidote encourages us to accept that reality is what it is. It reminds us that our imagination is a powerful tool and so we need to use it wisely. Prehnite Epidote empowers us to make important decisions and to take action. Prehnite Epidote teaches us to be open-minded and dream into wonderful and realistic futures. It reminds us that “impossible” things happen everyday. It’s not always magic and luck, it’s more often the result of actively doing the hard work and persevering despite setbacks. Prehnite Epidote shows us that we can be the change we wish to see in the world. All we have to do is, is decide what that change is and then get to work making it happen. Success is not a single destination, but rather a journey with countless milestones along the way.
Physical: Prehnite Epidote is most often used by metaphysical healers to assist in weight loss and to encourage healthy physical habits. It can reveal the emotional beliefs and patterns which are behind our current physical habits. Prehnite helps us to find the root cause for these beliefs, while Epidote helps us to make positive and long-lasting changes. Together they are believe to help stimulate the metabolism, calm the sympathetic nervous system, and help our physical bodies grow strong and healthy. Prehnite Epidote is particularly good for healers and other people who “know better” and yet still have trouble following their own good advice. It helps us to get out of our own way and do what needs to be done.
Always use wisdom when considering crystal therapies for healing.
Mineralogy of Prehnite Epidote
Color: Greenish-black Epidote crystals encased in a translucent Prehnite
Fluorescence: Yellowish-white (long wave) / Blueish-white (short wave)
Transparency: Transparent to opaque
Location: Prehnite and Epidote are found in numerous locations around the world. The largest deposit where two grow entwined is in Mali. Other notable deposits are in China, France Morocco, Namibia, Poland, Spain, Switzerland and the United States (Massachusetts and Michigan).
Rock Family: Prehnite Epidote is technically a rock, rather than a mineral. As an easy way to understand the difference, think of rocks as being like cookies and minerals as being the ingredients which make up those cookies. Many different minerals are used to create a rock! In this case, only two Silicate minerals are involved, Prehnite and Epidote
Formation: Epidote is typically formed in metamorphic rocks, while Prehnite is formed in igneous. In this case, during a period of hydrothermal alteration, metamorphic rocks were transformed into igneous rocks. The Epidote grew first and then sometime later, the Prehnite grew around the Epidote and eventually engulfing it completely. Enclosed crystals are sometimes called inclusions, or more properly, protogenetic minerals.
Mining: Prehnite is typically mined as a secondary mineral, where the principal purpose is to mine Igneous rocks, such as Granite. In Mali, however, the primary source for high-quality Prehnite Epidote, the pretty gem is sought for itself by artisanal miners.
Enhancements: All Prehnite Epidotes are natural, enhanced only by tumbling, cutting and polishing.
History of Prehnite Epidote
Prehnite and Epidote are both relatively “new” healing stone whose healing properties have only recently been explored. Neither one is included in any of the older lapidaries, texts that describe gemstones and their powers. Both stones were first documented at the turn of the eighteenth century, during the Age of Enlightenment, a period in which geology and mineralogy became formal sciences.
Mali is the main source for collector-quality entwined Prehnite Epidote. Mining is the top industry for this west African country. Mali’s principal export is gold which is mostly industrially mined by international mining corporations. But there is also a great deal of illicit artistanal gold mining which is not regulated and is concerning on both a human rights and environmental level. By contrast, Prehnite Epidote is entirely mined by artisanal miners and does not have the same kinds of risks associated with gold mining.

I have been doing business with this source since 2014. They are the oldest tumbling company in the world and have more varieties, in more sizes, than any other known source. The company started in California in the 1950s and was eventually bought by a British immigrant who had young sons. Eventually the company moved to South Africa in order to be closer to the source of their best-selling stone and to have the legal rights to export it. The company is now run by the sons and their childhood best friend.
The current owners visit many small and industrial-size mines personally. For artisanal-mined deposits in sub-Sahara Africa, the owners work with Gem Dealers who deal directly with the part-time miners. The majority of these Gem Dealers are women. Some, but not all, of their stones are labeled with country-of-origin. For those that aren’t, I ask the owners directly. As I’ve learned more about mining practices in individual countries, I have become increasingly selective about what I will purchase from them. However, they remain my preferred source for most of the stones I sell from sub-Sahara Africa.
