Sweet Grape Opals from Mexico range in color from dark blue to light purple. This particularly stock is a gorgeous lavender and white. It also glows brightly under a fluorescent UV light. These tumbled Purple Opals have a relaxed and sensual energy, so carry one in your pocket on date night. These Opals would also be a fantastic crystal to work with when fine-tuning your life so that you can enjoy more freedom, peace, and happiness.

Purple Opal Healing Properties

Ethically Sourced Purple Opal

Know where your crystals come from

This Purple Opal comes from a small mine in Magdalena, Jalisco, Mexico.  Opal mining tends to be underground and has a lower environmental impact.

This lapidary drum tumbles stones in Cape Town, South Africa. It is a family business, founded by a father and passed on to his sons. Factory workers have safe conditions and are paid fairly. The lapidary sells primarily at two gemshows, one in the United States and the other in France.

I have been doing business with this source since 2014. They are the oldest tumbling company in the world and have more varieties, in more sizes, than any other known source. The company started in California in the 1950s and was eventually bought by a British immigrant who had young sons. Eventually the company moved to South Africa in order to be closer to the source of their best-selling stone and to have the legal rights to export it. The company is now run by the sons and their childhood best friend.

The current owners personally visit many small and large mines. To connect with artisanal miners in sub-Sahara Africa, they work with local Gem Dealers who travel far into the bush to buy from part-time miners. The majority of these Gem Dealers are women. Some, but not all, of their stones are labeled with country-of-origin. For those that aren’t, I ask the owners directly. As I’ve learned more about mining practices in individual countries, I have become increasingly selective about what I will purchase from them. However, they remain my preferred source for most of the stones I sell from sub-Sahara Africa.

Purple Opals are very rare.  The color is occasionally found in Precious Opals in Australia and Ethiopia, but most of the Purple Opals on the market are Common Opals for Jalisco Mexico.  Nicknamed “Grade Opals” these pretty gems range in color from dark blue to pastel lavender, and are often mixed with pure White Opal.  Purple Opals invite us to release our inhibitions and to start enjoying life to the fullest. Their energy is confident, sensual, and above all joyful. They are a great choice for anyone who has had their heart broken in the past, but now feels a desire to be open to love again. […]
