Red Sheen Obsidian combines the reddish coloring of Mahogany Obsidian with the iridescent glitter of Gold Sheen Obsidian. It is very rare, but worth seeking out. Like other Obsidians, it is formed from rapidly cooling lava following a volcanic eruption. Most Red Sheen comes from the volcanic field of Black Rock Desert, Utah in the western United States. The volcanos in this area are small cones, the tallest of which is a 300 ft hill. Red Sheen is a wonderful stone of emotionally grounding when other people have triggered us. The Red Sheen Obsidian was a great surprise. From the photos I’d imagined reddish-brownish markings with maybe some iridescence but this beautiful stone’s concentric circles shine with a very fine, subtle glitter, something like a gold sheen obsidian but copper or bronze! In shadow it seems a glassy-smooth pure black Obsidian, but in light the sheen shows like a mysterious fire shining from within great depths.
