Healing Properties of Rhodonite
Spiritual: Rhodonite is a fantastic stone for helping us explore our life’s purpose. It is a heart-centered stone which encourages us to live in balance both internally and externally. It shows us how we can use our unique gifts for our Highest Good as well as for the betterment of all mankind, or even all of life. Rhodonite enhances meditation, praye,r and dream-work; helping us to better understand the messages they bring. It is a stone that celebrates family, friendship, romance, and self-love as the cornerstones of a happy life. Rhodonite is attuned to the Root and Heart Chakras and linked to the astrological sign of Taurus. It is connected to the elements of Earth and Fire and vibrates to the number 9.
Emotional: Rhodonite is possibly the very best emotional healer in the crystal kingdom. It can help us to heal recent emotional wounds as well as old emotional scars from the past. Rhodonite is a powerful love stone, guiding us to a place where we can forgive ourselves and others, and return to that calm and happy place inside ourselves. It is particularly helpful for exploring questions of self-worth and confidence. Rhodonite’s gift is to help us to bring more love into the world, both love that is given give and that which we receive.
Mental: Rhodonite invites us to live and think from a heart-centered position. It helps us to understand both sides of any issue and to be magnanimous in our judgments. Rhodonite encourages us to be generous, and to attract those people who can best help us or whom we can best help. It reduces the effects of anxiety and depression, and shows us the silver lining in otherwise dark clouds. Rhodonite helps us to keep a cool head, especially when we find ourselves under pressure or in danger. It promotes positive and creative thinking.
Physical: Rhodonite is commonly used by metaphysical healers for treating trauma and shock, and to heal open wounds. It is also said to be good for healing the physical heart in particular and injured internal organs in general. Rhodonite is also believed to be an excellent support for weight loss, by stimulating the metabolism and encouraging us to exercise on a regular basis.
Always use wisdom when considering crystal therapies for healing.

Mineral Family: Rhodonite is a rare type of manganese silicate. Silicate minerals form the largest family of minerals, including more than 25% of all known minerals and 40% of all common minerals. In addition to being a major part of the Earth’s crust, Silicate minerals have also been found on the moon and in meteorites. Silicates are minerals which contain the elements Silicon (a light gray shiny metal) and Oxygen (a colorless gas). Together, these two elements form a tetrahedron – a shape similar to a pyramid – with a Silicon atom in the center and Oxygen atoms at each of the four corners. These tetrahedra connect with other chemical structures, in six different ways, to form various minerals and rocks. One way the tetrahedra can connect is in long single chains, and it is to this group that Rhodonite belongs. Other famous minerals in the single-chain group are Astrophyllite, Jadite, Kunzite and Nuumite.
Formation: Rhodonite is formed during the metamorphosis of sedimentary manganese ore deposits, a process which creates the rose color. If the rose colored stone is then partially oxidized through weathering it creates black patches and veins of manganese dioxide.
Mining: Typically mined in various manganese ores, often in association with Rhodochrosite. Depending on the quality it may be mined specifically as a gem or ornamental stone.
Enhancements: All available Rhodonite are natural, enhanced only by tumbling, cutting, and polishing.
History of Rhodonite
Rhodonite was “discovered” relatively recently by the metaphysical community and so it was not included in any early lapidaries, texts that describe gemstones and their powers. Despite being a very pretty and easily recognizable stone, it has very little history attached to it.
The name Rhodonite comes from the Greek word rhodon, or rose. This is a reference to its beautiful pink coloring, which can range from hot pink (see Madagascar Rhodonite) to dusky pink, like these ones from Peru.

The Supply Chain
The Supply Chain is clean and relatively short.
The Mine and the Lapidary are located in different countries and at least one middleman is involved.
This Rhodonite comes from an industrial Nephrite Jade mine in British Columbia, Canada.
The exact mine is unknown, but Canada is one of the few countries that has adopted
environmentally-friendly and sustainable mining practices.
Canada has one of the safest mining standards in the world.

I have been doing business with this source since 2014. They are the oldest tumbling company in the world and have more varieties, in more sizes, than any other known source. The company started in California in the 1950s and was eventually bought by a British immigrant who had young sons. Eventually the company moved to South Africa in order to be closer to the source of their best-selling stone and to have the legal rights to export it. The company is now run by the sons and their childhood best friend.
The current owners visit many small and industrial-size mines personally. For artisanal-mined deposits in sub-Sahara Africa, the owners work with Gem Dealers who deal directly with the part-time miners. The majority of these Gem Dealers are women. Some, but not all, of their stones are labeled with country-of-origin. For those that aren’t, I ask the owners directly. As I’ve learned more about mining practices in individual countries, I have become increasingly selective about what I will purchase from them. However, they remain my preferred source for most of the stones I sell from sub-Sahara Africa.
