Healing Properties of Ruby Kyanite

Spiritual: Ruby Kyanite is a phenomenal stone for aligning and energizing the entire Chakra field so that we feel refreshed and ready for anything. It strengthens our most positive traits while simultaneously dissolving negative energies.  It puts us in the best position to pursue our Highest Good.  Ruby Kyanite encourages us to be brave and curious about the world, while also acting wisely.  Ruby Kyanite offers protection and strength for shamanic journeying and astral travel, helping us to maintain a solid connection to our physical body while allowing our spirit to range far and wide. It enhances lucid dreaming and dream recall, and also amplifies manifestation.  Ruby Kyanite helps us to pay closer attention to our spirit guides.  It helps us to listen to their messages, but also putting their suggestions into action.  Ruby Kyanite is attuned to ALL the Chakras and linked to the astrological signs of Aries, Taurus, Cancer, Libra, Leo, Scorpio, Sagittarius. It is connected to the element of Earth and Storm and vibrates to the master number 3 and 4.

Emotional: Ruby Kyanite It is a stone of courage, clarity, and joyful passion.  It helps us to understand and communicate our own emotional needs and reactions.  It gently reminds us that there are many ways to look at a situation – and some of those perspectives are wildly off base!  Ruby Kyanite helps us to determine which is the most correct perspective – which is usually the one that leaves us feeling empowered, calm and compassionate.   If we find ourselves feeling victimized or misunderstood, or if negative situations keep repeating, Ruby Kyanite helps us to take a step back and examine the situation more closely.  Are we expressing our thoughts and needs clearly?  Are we understanding other people accurately?  Is everyone responding in a way that makes sense?  If not, where is the disconnect between beliefs, words and actions?  Ruby Kyanite reminds us that sometimes what we want to be true, isn’t actually true.  It can help us to see through our own misconceptions as well as through other people’s gaslighting.  Ruby Kyanite teaches us that truth will always set us free and that honesty is always the best policy. Ruby Kyanite helps us to find our voice, follow our bliss, and be true to ourselves.

Mental: Ruby Kyanite is a wonderful stone for anything related to organization. It helps us to see things clearly and to understand the relationships between various items, ideas, people, and situations. Ruby Kyanite is particularly helpful when we need to create efficient systems – whether at work, at home, or in our deepest inner life. It helps us to calm our minds and think objectively, without letting our emotions distract us.  At the same time, Ruby Kyanite encourages us to notice what makes us feel happy and what leaves us feeling dissatisfied.  It reminds us that we don’t need to needlessly suffer just because we think we “should” do something or act a certain way.  We are not robots or unfeeling souls.  We are dynamic beings that have emotional and spiritual needs which deserve to be met.  Ruby Kyanite encourages us to organize our life in such a way that there is plenty of room for self-care and a pleasant balance of joy and peace.

Physical: Ruby Kyanite combines the healing energies of Ruby and Kyanite.  Ruby is recommended for anyone who wants a healthier and happier life, while Kyanite is recommended for anyone who wants a more peaceful life.  Together, they encourage us to live our best life.  Not the idealistic best life in our head, but the best life we can have in reality.  In part, this means prioritizing our physical and mental health, rather than ignoring our health until we have a crisis.  Ruby Kyanite invites us to look at our lifestyle honestly and ask ourselves what parts are already healthy and good, and what areas might require a change.  Ruby give us courage and self-love to make these changes, while Kyanite helps us to stay focused and not get overwhelmed.  Ruby Kyanite is a friendly and kind supporter when we are in transition between phases of life.  It reminds us that life never stands still, and so we also need to keep on moving.

Always use wisdom when considering crystal therapies for healing.

Rock Family: Ruby Kyanite is not a single mineral, but rather a rock. As an easy way to understand the difference, think of rocks as being like cookies and minerals as being the ingredients which make up those cookies. Many different minerals are used to create a rock! In the case of Ruby Kyanite, typically just two minerals are present, blue Kyanite and red Corundum (Ruby).

Formation: Ruby Kyanite is a rare type of metamorphic rock created by regional metamorphism and hydrothermal alteration. Both Kyanite and Rubies are formed during the metamorphic process in various locations around the globe. However, in India these two minerals are occasionally fused together into a single stone. Regional metamorphism occurs when there is a collision between tectonic plates, causing geological changes over a large area. Hydrothermal alteration happens when underground water is heated up to incredibly high temperatures. The hot water flows through minerals, leaving traces of other minerals in its wake, which can then grow into a combination stone over time.

Mining: Mined at its primary deposit, the principal purpose being to mine gem-quality Rubies, although any type of Ruby is collected. Most Rubies are mined using alluvial mining techniques – which simply means that an area is flooded to wash the rubies (which are heavy) out from the gravel and mud.

Enhancements: The Rubies in Ruby Kyanite are rarely gem quality, so typically these strikingly colored stones will remain intact. All Ruby Kyanites on the market are completely natural, enhanced only by tumbling, cutting, and polishing.

History of Ruby Kyanite

Ruby Kyanite is a relatively “new” healing stone whose properties have only recently begun to be explored. As a result, it was not included in early lapidaries, texts which describe gemstones and their powers. It has been available on the commercial market since at least the mid-1990s, since it is included in the modern lapidary Love is in the Earth (1995). There is no known unique history for this stone.

The Mine

This Ruby Kyanite was artisanally-mined near Bardipada, Kamataka, India.

The exact deposit is unknown, but most likely caused only minor environmental damage,

and would have been relatively low risk for miners.

Sourcing Relationship

I first met the owner of the lapidary in 2014 at the Gem and Mineral show in Tucson, Arizona.  It was my first buying trip for my own store and I was nervous.  Most lapidary owners were brisk and impatient with my questions, especially when I asked about the mines and the supply chains.   But one man stood out to me as particularly patient and kind.  He had been a whole-seller for over twenty years, yet he was happy to meet someone brand-new to the industry.

He took time to talk to me about the stones.  They came from his home country of India and he was able to tell me exactly which state or territory each one came from and some of the conditions at the individual mines.  When I told him that I wanted to source ethically, he said that it would be difficult, but that it was worthwhile challenge.  He made me feel like I could succeed, both at ethical sourcing and at being a business woman.

I looked forward to a long business relationship with him.  He died, unexpectedly, in 2016.

I stayed in touch with his family and in 2017 met his wife, teenage daughter, and his father.  This three-generation family has picked up the pieces and learned how to run the business.  The wife had never worked before, but she has gracefully stepped into her new role as a business owner.  Her father-in-law offers practical and moral support, but makes sure that everyone knows that SHE is the boss and that checks should be written directly to her.  The family continues to be supportive of my efforts to ethically source.  More than any other lapidary, they are willing to speak openly with me about the difficult parts of the industry. They have invited me to visit them in India, to visit the mines and their lapidary.  The daughter is now a GIA (Gemological Institute of America) Graduate and is interested in reiki and other healing modalities.  As she has grown up, she has become increasingly concerned about ethical issues.  The wife, the daughter and I are in active conversation about how we can support each other so that their supply chain becomes more ethical.
