Snowflake Obsidian is a rare variety of Obsidian found primarily in Utah in the Western United States. It gets its pretty white spots from Cristobalite, a silica mineral that partially crystallized with the Obsidian was hardening. Like other Obsidians, it is formed from rapidly cooling lava following a volcanic eruption. Normally the Obsidian hardens so quickly that there is no time for any minerals to crystallize, making Snowflake Obsidian quite unique! The Snowflake Obsidian’s gentle, solid, comfort is immediate and powerful. What a strong, benign, upholding stone this is! The disk shape fits comfortably into my palm, and though it’s Obsidian, all day it never seemed too much. I was resting after a crisis and worry, and I felt that having this stone near me deepened the restfulness and sped up the healing.
