Supply Chain for Sodalite

This Sodalite comes from artisanal miners in Peru.

This mine and lapidary is a family-run business in Peru that specializes in hand-polished stones. One brother is in charge of the mining, exporting and sales. The other brother manages the lapidary in Lima, Peru. The business sells exclusively at gem shows in France, Germany and the United States.

I first met the owner of the mine and lapidary at the 2014 Tucson Gem Show. At that time, he was set up with a single table and the only major Gem Show he attended was in Tucson. While most lapidaries sell their polished stones in pre-packaged bags by the pound or kilo, this seller allowed me to cherry pick through his stock and buy only the best. Since then, his spot in Tucson has expanded to four tables under a tent and he now sells at two of the major European shows. It has been fun to watch our businesses grow. Every Tucson Show, we go out to dinner and eat Peruvian food together.

Sodalite Healing, Mineralogy, and History

Published Jun2 2014  •  Updated August 2024  •  Read Time: 6 minutes
Sodalite is the most Feldspathoid mineral most commonly sold in the healing crystal industry.  It is vivid blue, widely sold, and relatively cheap, making it a popular choice for rainbow grids and chakra collections as a third-eye stone.  Most of the Sodalite on the market comes from mines in Namibia and India.  But some of the most stunning specimens come from South America.  The blue gem was highly-prized by the ancient Caral Civilization, which formed the earliest major city in the Americas.  Sodalite is a friendly stone that encourages us to get-along and work well with others.  It is a fantastic stone for students and scholars, as well as any Seeker of Truth. My sodalite is mostly blue – 2/3 blue and 1/3 white-ish. It’s pretty and about the size of a nutmeg. I got it as I’m hoping it will remind me to stay present, but mostly just because they are pretty.
