    Unknown.  The silver comes from an Italian Refiner on the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) list. All the refiners on this list are in good legal standing and can certify and independently audit that all supplies are traceable and conflict-free.  Unfortunately, LBMA standards do not provide traceability to the originating mine.

    This Silver chain comes from a refinery in Italy.  It was purchased from a US wholesaler who serves the fine jewelry community, selling refined precious metals, simple chains and beads, and jewelry tools.  The wholesaler is over 80 years and is actively involved in the ethical and sustainable jewelry community.  All of its gold and silver is sourced from refiners on the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) list.  The wholesaler is a carbon net-zero company and its facility is powered by solar panels.

    I first learned of this company in 2019 because they are a sponsor for one of the ethical sourcing conferences that I attend.  In 2023 I began to actively look for silver chains.  At first, I wanted to buy Fair Trade Silver but that proved impossible.  There is very limited access to it and the jewelers who work in it do not use it for chains nor was there enough available for a custom request.  Next I looked at silver where I knew the country of origin for the mine, but I was unable to find out any information about the mining or processing.  Eventually I reached out to this supplier because I knew that we shared the same ethical values and are working towards the same goals.
