Where does Stilbite come from?

Stilbite deposits have been found in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Faroe Islands, Germany, Iceland, India, Italy, Mexico, Russia, Scotland, and the United States (New Jersey, Oregon, Pennsylvania, and Washington).

The Environmental & Social Impact of Crystals

Your crystals should have a healing energy that is clean, powerful, & makes a positive difference.

Mineral Family

Stilbite is a Zeolite, a type of Silicate mineral. Silicates are minerals which contain the elements Silicon (a light gray shiny metal) and Oxygen (a colorless gas). Together, these two elements form a tetrahedron – a shape similar to a pyramid – with a Silicon atom in the center and Oxygen atoms at each of the four corners. These tetrahedra connect with other chemical structures, in six different ways, to form various minerals and rocks. There are six main groups of Silicate minerals, and these main groups are further subdivided into secondary subdivisions, such as Quartz and Feldspar. Stilbite belongs to the Zeolite group, in which the stones have an open crystal structure that contains cavities in which molecules of water can be trapped.

Stilbite’s energy works well with its family – other Zeolite minerals.  Try it in combination with Scolecite

Stilbite Formation and Crystal Associates

Stilbite is a relatively common stone formed from a combination of water, sodium and calcium. The majority of Stilbites are calcium rich, while a few are sodium-dominate. They occur in igneous rocks and at hot spring deposits.

Stilbite’s energy works well with its “friends” – crystal associates formed in the same geological environment.  Try it in combination with Apophyllite and Cavansite

History of Stilbite

Stilbite is a relatively “new” stone to the metaphysical world and so its properties are still being explored. It was first named in 1797 by the French mineralogist Jean Claude de la Métherie (1743-1817), the same year he returned to Paris, following the Reign of Terror, the period of the worst excesses of the French Revolution. He was responsible for naming numerous minerals over the course of his career. Stilbite’s name comes from the Greek stilbein, meaning “to shine,” a reference to its pearly luster.

In 1997, Stilbite was discovered to be two different minerals, rather than just a single one. These minerals are now known as Stilbite-CA and Stilbite-NA. To the naked eye, they seem identical but on the chemical level the difference is apparent. Stilbite-CA is the more common variety, and has a high calcium content. Stilbite-NA is more rare and has a higher sodium-content.
