Where does Tiger Iron come from?

Tiger Iron is only found only in Northern Western Australia.  There are two main mines, one inland in the Marra Marra formation, and the other along the coast in the Ord Range.  There are likely a few scattered artisanal mines as well.  Most of the Tiger Iron on the market comes from the inland Brockman Tiger Mine.

Mining and Treatments

Tiger Iron is found relatively near the surface of the Earth and is pit mined at its primary deposit by small scale miners.

All stones are fully natural, enhanced only through cutting and polishing.

The Environmental & Social Impact of Crystals

Your crystals should have a healing energy that is clean, powerful, & makes a positive difference.

Mineral Family

Tiger Iron is not a mineral, but rather a rock. An easy way to understand the difference is that rocks are like cookies and minerals are ingredients like flour or sugar. Many different minerals are used to create a rock! In this case, it is a sedimentary rock composed of layers of silver  Hematite, Gold Tigers Eye and Red Jasper.

Tiger Iron’s energy works well with its family – other Sedimentary Rocks.  Try it in combination with Septarian Nodule and Stromatolite

Tiger Iron Formation and Crystal Associates

Tiger Iron is a sedimentary rock, formed when various minerals or other materials are deposited on the Earth’s surface and within bodies of water. Over time the sediments are glued together into layers that can sometimes be seen with the naked eye.

Tiger Iron’s energy works well with its “friends” – crystal associates formed in the same geological environment.  Try it in combination with Dragon’s Blood Jasper and Mookaite Jasper.

History of Tiger Iron

Tiger Iron is a combination of three different minerals, each of which has their own distinct history.  But this combination stone is a relatively “new” healing stone whose properties have only recently begun to be explored. As a result, it was not included in early lapidaries, texts which describe gemstones and their powers, nor does it have any myths or historical references unique to it.  While it is most commonly called Tiger Iron, but it is sometimes sold as “Mugglestone.”

While fans of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter might automatically think the name “mugglestone” is linked to the books, the name actually predates the series. Mugglestone is an old Anglo-Saxon surname usually found in the western midlands of England. The name was first recorded in the 1086 Domesday Book, a population census taken by William the Conqueror after he claimed England. Various people named Mugglestone have emigrated to Australia in the past two centuries, including some which set up mining operations in the western part of that country. Despite this long history, the success of the Harry Potter franchise is such that this stone has now been nicknamed “Harry Potter Stone.”
