Healing Properities of Angelite
Spiritual: Angelite has an exceptionally high vibration and is one of the best stones to help develop greater levels of compassion. It helps us consciously communicate with the angelic realm and safely travel out-of-body. It encourages us to speak our truth and to be accepting of what cannot be changed. Angelite is attuned to the Throat, Third Eye and Crown Chakras and linked to the astrological sign of Aquarius. It is connected to the element of Wind and vibrates to the number 1.
Emotional: Angelite is a stone of peace and brotherhood. It alleviates pain and confusion, especially when caused by acts of cruelty. Holding an Angelite helps us to better receive love and guidance from those who have our best interest at heart.
Mental: Angelite helps us to communicate in a clear and concise manner, and is particularly good for diplomacy or when working in groups. It makes an excellent “dreaming stone,” and can be used to help us remain lucid while sleeping, as well as to remember and interpret our dreams when we awaken.
Physical: Angelite is a very soothing stone, said to be an excellent choice for helping treat depression, anxiety, and other mood disorders. It is also said to aid in weight control, especially when emotional issues are playing a role. Metaphysical healers commonly use Angelite to treat sore throats as well as the physical heart.
Always use wisdom when considering crystal therapies for healing.
Mineralogy of Angelite
Mineral Family: Sulfates
Chemical Composition: Ca[SO4]
Crystal System: Monoclinic
Form/Habit: Prismatic to tabular
Fracture: Very brittle
Luminescence: Yellowish-white (long wave) / Blueish-white (short wave)
Location: The best Angelite deposits are found in Mexico and Peru. Additional deposits are located in Britain, Egypt, Germany, Libya, and Poland.
Mineral Family: Angelite is soft blue Anhydrite, which is a Sulfate mineral. Sulfates are a group of minerals whose crystal structure has four Oxygen atoms forming a square with a Sulfur atom in the center. There are approximately 200 types of Sulfates, with Gypsum and Baryte being very common and the rest being quite rare. One of these rare varieties is Anhydrite, which is essentially, Gypsum which has had all of the water leeched out of it. Anhydrite may be colorless, white, pink, blue, violet, brown, red, or grey. The pale blue variety is called Angelite.
Associated Minerals: Howlite
Formation: Angelite is blue Anhydrite, a type of mineral which is created when Gypsum loses water. Anhydrite is commonly found in evaporate deposits, especially salt deposits, where it forms in coarse crystalline blocks. Individual crystals are rare, and when found are typically tabular. While colorless and brown Anhydrite is fairly common, blue Anhydrite (Angelite) is much more rare.
Mining: Typically commercially mined in primary deposits at evaporation deposits, Anhydrite is used for fertilizers and as a drying agent in paints.
Enhancements: All Angelites on the market are natural, enhanced only through tumbling, cutting, and polishing.
Synonym: Blue Anhydrite
History of Angelite
Angelite is a relatively “new” healing stone whose healing properties have only recently been explored. It was discovered in Peru in 1987 and its metaphysical properties were first explored later that year during theHarmonic Convergence, the world’s first globally synchronized meditation event.

I first spoke to the manager of the export company after finding them online in early 2017 and met the manager in person at the Denver Gem Show later that year. I was cautious about doing business with them since they are the exporter, rather than the miners or tumblers. But I studied their company and was pleased by their dedication to environmentalism. They focus on exporting Fair Trade, Consciously-Made, and No-Harm Peruvian handicrafts. They also have worked to reduce their carbon footprint in their wholesale warehouse.
In 2019, I had a long conversation with the manager about ethical topics in the stone industry. She was willing to speak candidly about both the positives and the negatives. She also shared how she personally struggled with the ethical issues and her part in the supply chain. Whenever a shipment of goods arrives from Peru, she insists on smudging every box before it is brought into the factory. The manager introduced me to the mother of the current owner. A tiny woman, less than 5 ft tall, she was happy to reminisce with me about how she started the company more than 30 years ago. She had been a young immigrant mother, searching for a new life. Her nephew, back in Peru, shipped her a few buckets of Pyrite and asked her to see if she could sell them. She laughed to remember those days and radiated happiness and gratitude. Today, the business is run by her son and his cousin in Peru.
