Healing Properties of Chalcopyrite
Spiritual: Chalcopyrite is a highly mystical stone that helps us to accurately perceive and connect with ancient cultures and spiritual traditions. It is closely linked with the Sun, Light in all its forms, and our own personal quest for enlightenment. It removes energy blocks in the Aura and Chakras and makes an excellent meditation tool for clearing the mind. Chalcopyrite is attuned to the Root ans Solar Plexus Chakras and linked to the astrological sign of Capricorn. It is connected to the elements of Earth and vibrates to the number 9.
Emotional: Chalcopyrite has a calm energy that can help us to explore our emotions and belief systems in a safe, non-judgmental, and highly logical manner. It helps us to relax and be open to receiving new information and the knowledge of how to implement new ideas and desires. Chalcopyrite shows us that there is an inherent perfection in each moment, and urges us to take the time to appreciate and learn its wisdom.
Mental: Chalcopyrite strengthens the memory and sharpens our intellectual capabilities. It is particularly good for helping us to see and understand patterns within the larger picture and to recognize both causation and correlations. Chalcopyrite encourages us to give the highest quality of work in all our endeavors, simply because that energy of integrity and vitality serves us well.
Physical: Chalcopyrite is said to treat brain disorders and infectious diseases. It is most commonly used in acupressure/accupuncture treatments to move energy though the body as needed. Chlacopyrite is also used by body builders and those seeking weight loss, as it is believed to help promote a more “ideal” physical body, one in which inner health is as important as outer appearance.
Always use wisdom when considering crystal therapies for healing.
Mineralogy of Chalcopyrite
Mineral Family: Sulfates
Chemical Composition: CuFeS2
Color: Brassy yellow
Crystal System: Tetragonal
Fracture: Uneven, brittle
Location: Major Chalcopyrite deposits are found in Peru and the United States (Arizona, Colorado, and Utah). Additional deposits have been found in Canada, China, England, Germany, Japan, Spain, and Tasmania.
Mineral Family: Chalcopyrite is a type of Sulfide, minerals in which sulfur has been combined with one or more metals. They tend to have simple structures and often have a metallic luster.
Formation: Like other Sulfates, Chalcopyrite can occur in all rock types. It is created when iron molecules bond with water. It is most often found in igneous and metamorphic rocks, particularly in hydrothermal copper ore veins.
Mining: Sulfide minerals are the ore minerals for most commercially mined metals including Gold, Silver, Platinum, and Copper. Chalcopyrite is commonly mined alongside these more precious metals and is in fact the single most important Copper ore.
Enhancements: All Chalcopyrite is natural, enhanced only by tumbling, cutting, and polishing.
History of Chalcopyrite
Chalcopyrite was not included as a distinct mineral in most early lapidaries, texts which describe gemstones and their powers. However, its presence as an ore for precious metals, such as Gold, Silver, and especially Copper, means that humans have been in contact with this stone for millennia and may very well have associated various metaphysical properties to it which were not recorded and preserved.
Its name comes from the Greek words khalkos, or “Copper” and pyrite, whose name comes from the Greek pyr meaning “fire.”

I purchased from this source a few times during the earlier years of my business. They sell a variety of polished stones from Peru, including tumbled stones. At first, the owner was never available while I was shopping. I spoke with various workers, but because of the language barrier I got conflicting information. It was obvious to me that the source was closely linked with a Copper mine, based on the minerals and location. Research online seemed to link this source with a tech company in Hong Kong that makes a mining app for large industrial mines. I decided that I wouldn’t do business with them again unless I met the owner and got clear information.
In 2019, I finally met the owner and happily he is bilingual. He shared stories with me about his father who owns a Copper mine. Most Copper mines are large industrial mines owned by multi-national corporations. I was surprised but pleased to hear that this is a family-run business.
