Mineral Family: Charoite is a rare Silicate mineral. Silicate minerals form the largest family of minerals, including more than 25% of all known minerals and 40% of all common minerals. In addition to being a major part of the Earth’s crust, Silicate minerals have also been found on the moon and in meteorites. Silicates are minerals which contain the elements Silicon (a light gray shiny metal) and Oxygen (a colorless gas). Together, these two elements form a tetrahedron – a shape similar to a pyramid – with a Silicon atom in the center and Oxygen atoms at each of the four corners. These tetrahedra connect with other chemical structures, in six different ways, to form various minerals and rocks. There are six main groups of Silicate minerals, and these main groups are further subdivided into secondary subdivisions, such as Quartz and Feldspar. Charoite belongs to the Feldspathoid group, which includes minerals rich in Sodium and Potassium.

Formation: Charoite is created when a Synite (a type of igneous rock) intrudes into Limestone (a sedimentary rock).

Mining: In its natural raw state, Charoite didn’t gather much attention on the international market. It wasn’t until 1978 that polished forms became available. Since then, demand has been high and it has been actively mined.

Enhancements: All Charoites are completely natural, enhanced only by cutting, polishing, and tumbling.

History of Charoite

Charoite is a relatively “new” healing stone whose properties have only recently begun to be explored. As a result, it was not included in early lapidaries, texts which describe gemstones and their powers.

Charoite was first documented during the 1940s, while the USSR was building the trans-Siberian railroad through the Kodar Mountains, in the satellite state of the Sakha Republic. While digging a tunnel, it was discovered that a relatively plain-looking stone from the mountain would become a vivid purple when polished. In 1978, this stone was named Charoite, in honor of the Chara River that runs nearby.

Healing Properties of Charoite

Spiritual: Charoite is a mighty stone for transformation and transition; bringing us courage, strength, and resilience. It is both grounding and uplifting, idealistic and practical. It teaches us that we are here to do great things with our lives – to be of service in our own unique way and to spread Light to others. Charoite invites us to love more and to show that love in all we do. Charoite has a very romantic energy, which is directly linked to our spiritual life, encouraging us to blissfully dance with the Divine. It activates our psychic abilities and healing powers, and clears away negative energy replacing it with the pure power of unconditional love. Charoite is attuned to the Root, Solar Plexus, Heart, Third Eye, and Crown Chakras and linked to the astrological sign of Scorpio, Sagittarius. It is connected to the element of Wind and vibrates to the number 7.

Emotional: Charoite has a very relaxing energy, helping us to let go of stress and worry. It whispers that we are exactly where we are meant to be. During difficult times, Charoite reminds us that this is merely a “season” of our life, meant to teach us something important so that we can become the person we are meant to be. Sometimes we resist the path we are meant to follow, for a variety of reasons. Charoite helps us to gently accept that when we follow our true path, it will lead to peace and happiness. No one can choose our path for us, it is ultimately a sweet agreement between us and the Divine. Charoite helps us to let go of other people’s perceptions and influences, so we can stand on our own. Charoite helps us to let go of relationships that no longer serve us and to empower and renew relationships that bring Light into our lives. Charite is a fairy-tale stone, showing us the way to our own “happily ever after.”

Mental: Charoite celebrates independent thinking and proactive actions. Charoite reminds us that all situations are either inside our control, and thus able to be successful resolved, or outside of our control, and therefore not worth our time and energy. If something is outside of our control, but still of great interest, then Charoite encourages us to be more thoughtful and find the part of the situation that IS in our control. How can we change our small part in a large problem? How can we create positive long-lasting change? We might not be able to solve every problem, but Charoite teaches us that we CAN solve, or at least positively affect, any problem we set our minds to.

Physical: Charoite is said to help calm the nervous system, particularly when the heart is affected. It is often used by metaphysical healers for treating sleep disorders and for general strengthening of the physical body and its energy fields. It is also believe to be helpful for anyone on the autistic spectrum.

Always use wisdom when considering crystal therapies for healing.

Earth to Pocket

Earth to Pocket is the Moonrise Crystal business mission. It’s the promise that any stones purchased here will be consciously sourced and the journey of the stone, from the Earth and into your Pocket, will be as transparent as possible.

These Charoites were mined in the Sakha Republic, Russia and tumbled in India.

It would be my pleasure to hand-select a beautiful Charoite for you.

Your Stone

This price is for one stone. You can buy a single Charoite or several, depending on your individual needs. Each Charoite measures at least 1 inch at its longest length and have a unique chunky shape with soft edges. Tumbled stones are natural products and variations are part of their beauty.

The stone I choose for you will be smooth and free of chips and be a vivid purple with attractive black markings.  These are gem-quality stones, rather than regular tumbled stones. If you buy multiple stones, I will choose stones that look and feel particularly good together. Stones will be cleansed and smudged with sage before being shipped to you.

With their distinctive pattern and clean energies, these Charoites are perfect for crystal healing. Add them to a medicine bag, place them on an altar, use them in a crystal elixir, fashion them into jewelry, or simply carry them in your pocket.

Safe Handling of Charoite

Good To Know:

Charoite Stones are physically durable stones. As long as they are rounded and without thin edges, they can be carried in a pocket or medicine bag, or worn as jewelry on an everyday basis, without significant danger of the stone chipping or breaking.

Charoite can be physically cleansed with water or a dusting cloth.

Charoite can be energetically cleansed using any method. They will appreciate being soaked in fresh water, set outside to absorb the moonlight, and/or being smudged with smoke or incense. Use your own intuition to determine the best method.

Tumbled and fully smooth Charoite Stone can be safely used to make direct-infusion “Charoite Stone Water” for drinking or bathing. Before making any direct-infusion elixir ALWAYS check the mineralogical properties of the stone to ensure it is not toxic. Only use fully tumbled stones or natural Quartz points in direct-infusion elixirs, never rough stones. When in doubt, make an indirect-infusion elixir instead.

Charoite Stones can be left in sunshine for extended periods of time without losing their color. However, it is always considered a “best practice” to keep your stones and crystals out of direct sunlight as much as possible.
