Healing Properties of Charoite

Spiritual: Charoite is a mighty stone for transformation and transition; bringing us courage, strength, and resilience. It is both grounding and uplifting, idealistic and practical. It teaches us that we are here to do great things with our lives – to be of service in our own unique way and to spread Light to others. Charoite invites us to love more and to show that love in all we do. Charoite has a very romantic energy, which is directly linked to our spiritual life, encouraging us to blissfully dance with the Divine. It activates our psychic abilities and healing powers, and clears away negative energy replacing it with the pure power of unconditional love. Charoite is attuned to the Root, Solar Plexus, Heart, Third Eye, and Crown Chakras and linked to the astrological sign of Scorpio, Sagittarius. It is connected to the element of Wind and vibrates to the number 7.

Emotional: Charoite has a very relaxing energy, helping us to let go of stress and worry. It whispers that we are exactly where we are meant to be. During difficult times, Charoite reminds us that this is merely a “season” of our life, meant to teach us something important so that we can become the person we are meant to be. Sometimes we resist the path we are meant to follow, for a variety of reasons. Charoite helps us to gently accept that when we follow our true path, it will lead to peace and happiness. No one can choose our path for us, it is ultimately a sweet agreement between us and the Divine. Charoite helps us to let go of other people’s perceptions and influences, so we can stand on our own. Charoite helps us to let go of relationships that no longer serve us and to empower and renew relationships that bring Light into our lives. Charite is a fairy-tale stone, showing us the way to our own “happily ever after.”

Mental: Charoite celebrates independent thinking and proactive actions. Charoite reminds us that all situations are either inside our control, and thus able to be successful resolved, or outside of our control, and therefore not worth our time and energy. If something is outside of our control, but still of great interest, then Charoite encourages us to be more thoughtful and find the part of the situation that IS in our control. How can we change our small part in a large problem? How can we create positive long-lasting change? We might not be able to solve every problem, but Charoite teaches us that we CAN solve, or at least positively affect, any problem we set our minds to.

Physical: Charoite is said to help calm the nervous system, particularly when the heart is affected. It is often used by metaphysical healers for treating sleep disorders and for general strengthening of the physical body and its energy fields. It is also believe to be helpful for anyone on the autistic spectrum.

Always use wisdom when considering crystal therapies for healing.

Mineral Family: Charoite is a rare Silicate mineral. Silicate minerals form the largest family of minerals, including more than 25% of all known minerals and 40% of all common minerals. In addition to being a major part of the Earth’s crust, Silicate minerals have also been found on the moon and in meteorites. Silicates are minerals which contain the elements Silicon (a light gray shiny metal) and Oxygen (a colorless gas). Together, these two elements form a tetrahedron – a shape similar to a pyramid – with a Silicon atom in the center and Oxygen atoms at each of the four corners. These tetrahedra connect with other chemical structures, in six different ways, to form various minerals and rocks. There are six main groups of Silicate minerals, and these main groups are further subdivided into secondary subdivisions, such as Quartz and Feldspar. Charoite belongs to the Feldspathoid group, which includes minerals rich in Sodium and Potassium.

Formation: Charoite is created when a Synite (a type of igneous rock) intrudes into Limestone (a sedimentary rock).

Mining: In its natural raw state, Charoite didn’t gather much attention on the international market. It wasn’t until 1978 that polished forms became available. Since then, demand has been high and it has been actively mined.

Enhancements: All Charoites are completely natural, enhanced only by cutting, polishing, and tumbling.

History of Charoite

Charoite is a relatively “new” healing stone whose properties have only recently begun to be explored. As a result, it was not included in early lapidaries, texts which describe gemstones and their powers.

Charoite was first documented during the 1940s, while the USSR was building the trans-Siberian railroad through the Kodar Mountains, in the satellite state of the Sakha Republic. While digging a tunnel, it was discovered that a relatively plain-looking stone from the mountain would become a vivid purple when polished. In 1978, this stone was named Charoite, in honor of the Chara River that runs nearby.

Ethically Sourced Charoite

The Miners sell to a rough Gem Dealer/Exporter.

The Exporter sells to a Lapidary.

The Lapidary sells directly to Moonrise Crystals.

Moonrise Crystals sells directly to you.

The Supply Chain

The Supply Chain is clean and relatively short.

The Mine and the Lapidary are located in different countries, with one middleman involved.

The Mine

This Charoite comes from a small mine in the Sakha Republic, Eastern Siberia, Russia.

It was most likely extracted by hand, as it is difficult to get heavy machinery into that region.

The mining likely cause only minor environmental damage.

The Lapidary

This Charoite was polished in Cape Town, South Africa.

The Lapidary is a family-owned business, founded by father and passed on to his sons.

Factory workers have safe conditions and are paid fairly.

The Lapidary is also the direct-importer & sells primarily at large gem shows.

Sourcing Relationship

I have been doing business with this source since the earliest days in my business.  They are a major tumbling company and have more varieties, in more sizes, than any other known source.  The owners visit many small and industrial-size mines personally.  For artisanal-mined deposits in sub-Sahara Africa, the owners work with Gem Dealers who deal directly with the part-time miners.  The majority of these Gem Dealers are women.

Some, but not all, of their stones are labeled with country-of-origin.  For those that aren’t, I have to ask the owners personally.  They tend to get impatient with questions.  As I’ve learned more about mining practices in individual countries, I have become increasingly selective about what I will purchase from them.  However, they remain my preferred source for most of sub-Sahara Africa.

I received the 2 Charoite crystals I ordered approximately 2 weeks ago and I wanted to let you know I absolutely adore them. They are beautiful pieces and I am excited to wire wrap one. You have provided excellent customer service and I thank you for your generosity; the divine tea was delicious and much needed as I am fighting off a cold. I was not expecting the crystals to arrive so quickly as I am in Canada so I was thrilled to see them today. I will definitely be ordering from you again.
