Mineral Family: Lepidolite is a combination of various types of mica minerals, which are Silicates. Silicate minerals are the largest family of minerals, including more than 25% of all known minerals and 40% of all common minerals. In addition to being a major part of the Earth’s crust, Silicate minerals have also been found on the moon and in meteorites. Silicates are minerals which contain the elements Silicon (a light gray shiny metal) and Oxygen (a colorless gas). Together, these two elements form a tetrahedron – a shape similar to a pyramid – with a Silicon atom in the center and Oxygen atoms at each of the four corners. These tetrahedra connect with other chemical structures, in six different ways, to form various minerals and rocks. Lepidolite belongs to the Phyllosilicate group, which includes many different types of mica minerals, including Fuchsite (green mica) and Biotite (black mica). Initially Lepidolite was thought to be “purple Mica” but now it it is believed to be a fusion of several mica minerals. The Phyllosilicate group also includes such diverse minerals as Chrysocolla, Prehnite, and Serpentine.
Formation: Lepidolite is type of mica containing lithium. It occurs almost exclusively in granitic pegmatites in association with other lithium-bearing minerals such as Beryl, Topaz, Quartz, and Tourmaline.
Mining: Typically mined from the primary deposits which still have their original relationship with the host rock. It is mined as a source of lithium and used to make glass and enamels.
Enhancements: All Lepidolite is natural, enhanced only by tumbling, cutting, and polishing.
History of Lepidolite
Lepidolite was “discovered” relatively recently by the metaphysical community and so it was not included in any early lapidaries, texts that describe gemstones and their powers. It was first documented in the 18th century and originally named “lilalite” as tribute to its lilac-purple coloring. Some sources say that the name came from the Hindu word lila, meaning “divine play.” While this story is delightful, the former story is much more likely. Later, its official name was changed to Lepidolite, which comes from the Greek word lepidos meaning “scale” a reference to Lepidolite’s scaly, shimmery appearance – which is caused by flakes of lithium.
Lepidolite is one of the most important natural sources for lithium, a soft silvery-white metal. Lithium is the lightest metal on earth and is used to make millions of objects and gadgets beloved by the western world, from airplanes to cellphones, from kitchen blenders to batteries. It also is used to make the mood-stabilizing drug, Lithium, which is used to treat the manic phase of bi-polar disorder.
Healing Properties of Lepidolite
Spiritual: Lepidolite is an incredible tool for personal transformation. It opens both the Heart and the Third Eye, helping us to travel farther and swifter on our spiritual path. It helps to reveal what is blocking you from attaining success and happiness, and how to move forward. Lepidolite is attuned to the Heart and Third Eye Chakras; is linked to Libra and the element of Water; and vibrates to the number 8.
Emotional: Lepidolite encourages us to take personal responsibility for our lives and to take the necessary steps to transform ourselves into the magnificent person we were born to be. It lights the way to freedom, releasing us from the chains of the past. Lepidolite helps us to find our deepest center, the place where we are most secure and powerful and to live from this place. Lepidolite balances our highs and lows, leading us to a calm and joyful emotional state.
Mental: Lepidolite helps us to shift away from worry, fear, and addiction. It helps us to look objectively at our life and its stressors and to logically deduce what needs to change. Lepidolite reminds us that transformation takes time, but if we remain dedicated then positive change is inevitable.
Physical: Lepidolite is used by metaphysical healers to support a wide-variety of mental and emotional disorders, particularly bi-polar disorder and ADHD. It is also commonly used to help reduce the desire for addictive behaviors and drugs, as well as to reduce both insomnia and nightmares. Lepidolite is also used to clear away electromagnetic pollution and its effects.

Earth to Pocket
Earth to Pocket is the Moonrise Crystal business mission. It’s the promise that any stones purchased here will be consciously sourced and the journey of the stone, from the Earth and into your Pocket, will be as transparent as possible.
These Lepidolitess were mined in China and tumbled in South Africa.
I met the owner of the South African tumbling company at the 2014 Gem and Mineral show in Tucson, Arizona. This company only sells tumbled stones twice a year, once at the Tucson show and later at the Sainte Marie Aux Mines International Mineral and Gem Expo in Provence, France. They offer the largest selection of high quality tumbled stones in the industry and are one of my favorite suppliers.
It would be my pleasure to hand-select a beautiful Lepidolite for you.
This price is for one stone.
You can buy a single Lepidolite or several, depending on your individual needs. Each Lepidolite measures approximately 1 inch at its longest length and has a unique rounded shape. Tumbled stones are natural products and variations are part of their beauty.
The stone I choose for you will be smooth and free of chips and cracks, and be a beautiful lilac or dusky purple with glittery mica. If you buy multiple stones, I will choose stones that look and feel particularly good together. Stones will be cleansed and smudged with sage before being shipped to you.
With their sparkling color and clean energies, these Lepidolites are perfect for crystal healing. Add them to a medicine bag, place them on an altar, use them in a crystal elixir, fashion them into jewelry, or simply carry them in your pocket.
Safe Handling of Lepidolite
Lepidolite contains Aluminum and as such should NOT be used to make direct-infusion “Lepidolite water” for drinking or bathing. Having too much Aluminum in the body is toxic, and drinking direct-infusion elixirs of Aluminum-derived stones is dangerous. You can however, make a safe elixir using an indirect method – simply place the stone near, but not touching, the water.
Good To Know:
Lepidolite are physically durable stones. As long as they are rounded and without thin edges, they can be carried in a pocket or medicine bag, or worn as jewelry on an everyday basis, without significant danger of the stone chipping or breaking.
Lepidolite can be physically cleansed with water or a dusting cloth.
Lepidolite can be energetically cleansed using any method. They will appreciate being soaked in fresh water, set outside to absorb the moonlight, and/or being smudged with smoke or incense. Use your own intuition to determine the best method.
Lepidolite can be left in sunshine for extended periods of time without losing their color, especially if the stone is opaque, rather than translucent or transparent. However, it is always considered a “best practice” to keep your stones and crystals out of direct sunlight as much as possible.
