Many different minerals are used to create a rock! In the case of New Jade, it is a mixture of several different Serpentine minerals, mainly Antigorite, Chrysotile, and Lizardite.

Formation: “New Jade” is typically formed by a low-temperature metamorphic process, in which silica-poor ignenous rocks are oxidized and hydrolyzed until they transform into Serpentinite.

Mining: Serpentine minerals and Serpentinite Ore rocks are heavily mined, for both industrial and decorative uses.  For example, Chrysotile is a white Serpentine mineral that is the most important asbestos mineral, while “Serpentine Marble” a beautiful green Serpentinite ore rock is mined as huge slabs and polished to a high sheen.  The name “New Jade” can be given to any Serpentinite or Serpentine stone that is apple-green, easily carved and polished

Enhancements: All forms of Serpentine and Serpentinite, including “New Jade” are natural, enhanced only by tumbling, cutting, and polishing.

History of “New Jade” Serpentine

So-called “Jade” Buddha

“New Jade” is a type of Serpentine with a beautiful apple-green color and a soft surface that is relatively easy to carve and sculpt.  Real Jade, is one of two distinct minerals, Jadeite and Nephrite, with the latter being much more common.  High-quality Jadeite is perhaps the most prized gemstone in east-Asia, particularly China.  Deposits for Jadeite are increasingly being played out, yet the desire for “Jade” jewelry and statuary is only growing.  To meet this commercial demand, lapidaries are now using Serpentine instead, cleverly marketed as “New Jade”.

A great deal of the “Jade” figurines sold today are either “New Jade” Serpentine or plastic resins, rather than Nephrite or Jadeite.  At a casual glance, the easiest way to tell the difference between these four materials is to consider the price and weight.  “New Jade” will of course be heavier than plastic, but both of them will be relatively inexpensive.  Nephrite Jade figurines/jewelry will be more expensive, while Jadeite will be prohibitively costly. The more solid the coloring, the more likely it is that Serpentine or a plastic resin has been used.  Solid-colored Nephrite or Jadeite are much more rare and thus command a much higher price.

Earth to Pocket

Earth to Pocket is the Moonrise Crystal business mission. It’s the promise that any stones purchased here will be consciously sourced and the journey of the stone, from the Earth and into your Pocket, will be as transparent as possible.

These New Jade Serpentines were mined and tumbled in China.

I first met the Hong Kong tumbling company at the 2014 Tucson Gem and Mineral Show. Despite their beautiful tumbled stones, I was reluctant at first to buy from them. A particular concern was their tumbled Coral, which I feared was illegally harvested from the wild. When I asked them, they told me their Coral was actually grown in an aquaculture. The longer I talked to them, the more I was impressed with their knowledge and integrity. After our conversation, I purchased from the tumbling company with confidence.

It would be my pleasure to hand-select a beautiful New Jade Serpentine for you.

Your Stone

This price is for one stone. You can buy a single New Jade Serpentine or several, depending on your individual needs. Each New Jade Serpentine measures at least 1 inch at its longest length and have a flat disc shape with soft edges. Tumbled stones are natural products and variations are part of their beauty.

The stone I choose for you will be a beautiful lime green color. If you buy multiple stones, I will choose stones that look and feel particularly good together. Stones will be cleansed and smudged with sage before being shipped to you.

With their beautiful color and clean energies, these New Jade Serpentines are perfect for crystal healing. Add them to a medicine bag, place them on an altar, use them in a crystal elixir, fashion them into jewelry, or simply carry them in your pocket.
