Mineral Family: Lavender Quartz is a rare variety of Rose Quartz. Rose Quartz is the pink variety of Quartz, which is in turn a Silicate mineral. Silicate minerals are the largest family of minerals, including more than 25% of all known minerals and 40% of all common minerals. In addition to being a major part of the Earth’s crust, Silicate minerals have also been found on the moon and in meteorites. Silicates are minerals which contain the elements Silicon (a light gray shiny metal) and Oxygen (a colorless gas). Together, these two elements form a tetrahedra – a shape similar to a pyramid – with a Silicon atom in the center and Oxygen atoms at each of the three corners. These tetrahedras connect with other chemical structures, in six different ways, to form various minerals and rocks. There are six main groups of Silicate minerals, and these main groups are further subdivided into secondary subdivisions, such as Quartz and Feldspar. Quartz is a large mineral family in its own right and its members come in every shade of the rainbow. Colorless Quartz is called Clear Quartz or Rock Crystal. Yellow Quartz is Citrine. Green Quartz is Prasiolite. Brown Quartz is Smoky Quartz. The most highly prized variety of all is Amethyst, or purple Quartz. Lavender Quartz is a pale pink-purple, but is a subcategory of Rose Quartz rather than of Amethyst
Formation: Lavender Quartz is created when liquid magma from a volcanic explosion cools down and transforms into igneous rocks. During this cooling down period, silica acid bubbles shift from being a gas/liquid into a solid compound. The bubble becomes a hollow space in the igneous rock and the silica acid becomes Quartz crystals. Trace particles of iron, manganese, or titanium within the silica acid give Lavender Quartz its purple-pink color, otherwise the silica acid would transform into Clear Quartz.
Mining: Lavender Quartz is only found within regular Rose Quartz deposits.
Enhancements: All Lavender Quartz is natural, enhanced only by tumbling, cutting, and polishing.

History of Lavender Quartz
Lavender Quartz is a relatively new crystal and so is not included in most lapidaries, ancient or modern. It’s name comes from its purple-pink coloring, similar to some varieties of the lavender plant.

Healing Properties of Lavender Quartz
Spiritual: Lavender Quartz evokes the awesome power of unconditional love and compassion. It shows us how to use feelings of love and acts of loving-kindness as a spiritual path. When held during prayer or meditation, it dissolves boundaries and allows us to more fully feel the embrace of the Divine and access Nirvana. Lavender Quartz is a particularly suitable stone for anyone who is devoted to a heart-centered spiritual master, such as Jesus Christ, Kwan Yin, or Amma. Lavender Quartz is attuned to the Solar Plexus (3rd) and Heart (4th) Chakras and linked to the astrological signs of Taurus, Virgo, Libra, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces. It is connected to the element of Water and Wind and vibrates to the numbers 3 and 7.
Emotional: Lavender Quartz’s energy is connected to all aspects of love – including self love, romantic love, friendship and family love, as well as community and global love. It has a soothing and peaceful energy which can help to reduce daily worries as well as major emotional trauma. Lavender Quartz encourages us to make self-care a high priority, because in taking care of ourselves we have gain strength and energy which we can then give out to the world.
Mental: Lavender Quartz encourages forgiveness and compassion. It can help us to intellectually understand where another person is coming from and why a situation has occurred. With this understanding, we can then truly accept “what is” and then figure out what to do next. Lavender Quartz shows us that our Highest Good is always served by acting out of real love, which may manifest as self love or as love for another, or both simultaneously. Lavender Quartz teaches us that we should always seek out solutions which “work, bless and protect” all parties.
Physical: Lavender Quartz is said to be a stabilizing and strengthening stone for the physical heart as well as the brain. Metaphysical healers use it to treat some forms of depression and anxiety.
Always use wisdom when considering crystal therapies for healing.

Learn More: Ethical Lapidary
I first spoke to the manager of the export company after finding them online in early 2017 and met the manager in person at the Denver Gem Show later that year. I was cautious about doing business with them since they are the exporter, rather than the miners or tumblers. But I studied their company and was pleased by their dedication to environmentalism. They focus on exporting Fair Trade, Consciously-Made, and No-Harm Peruvian handicrafts. They also have worked to reduce their carbon footprint in their wholesale warehouse.
In 2019, I had a long conversation with the manager about ethical topics in the stone industry. She was willing to speak candidly about both the positives and the negatives. She also shared how she personally struggled with the ethical issues and her part in the supply chain. Whenever a shipment of goods arrives from Peru, she insists on smudging every box before it is brought into the factory. The manager introduced me to the mother of the current owner. A tiny woman, less than 5 ft tall, she was happy to reminisce with me about how she started the company more than 30 years ago. She had been a young immigrant mother, searching for a new life. Her nephew, back in Peru, shipped her a few buckets of Pyrite and asked her to see if she could sell them. She laughed to remember those days and radiated happiness and gratitude. Today, the business is run by her son and his cousin in Peru.
