Healing Properties of Rainforest Jasper
Spiritual: Rainforest Jasper connects us to the web of life and helps us to realize that we are a part of nature and play an integral role within it. Rainforest Jasper is a wonderful stone for attracting devas and other nature spirits. It is particularly good for helping maintain a spiritual state once it has been reached, making it an intriguing meditation stone. Rainforest Jasper is attuned to ALL Chakras and linked to the astrological signs of Leo and Capricorn. It is connected to the element Earth and vibrates to the numbers 6 and 8.
Emotional: Rainforest Jasper strengthens feelings of self-respect and self-value. With it we can more clearly see and accept ourselves as we currently are, without longing for a purer past or better future. Instead, we stay in the present moment and find what has value within it. Rainforest Jasper brings feelings of hope, renewal, and energy. It is a wonderful stone to work with if you suffer from depression, nature-deficit disorder, or have need to more actively engage in the life around you.
Mental: Rainforest Jasper makes us more aware of our inner strength and ability to deal with difficult life circumstances. It helps us to stay calm and concentrate on what is most important. It is a highly creative stone, especially for anyone whose creativity is consciously being connected to their spiritual life.
Physical: All forms of Rhyolite are thought to fortify the immune system. Rainforest Jasper in particular is often used to help treat influenza, colds and minor infections. It has also been used to help detoxify the body and treat the liver.
Always use wisdom when considering crystal therapies for healing.
Minerology of Rainforest Jasper

Rough Rainforest Jasper (Australia)

Major Minerals: Feldspar, Quartz
Minor Minerals: Natural Glass
Color: Green, Brown
Gravity: 2.4-2.6
Hardness: 6.5-7

Location: Rainforest Jasper is a form of Rhyolite. The largest Rhyolite deposits are in the United States (Nevada), but the principal deposit for Rainforest Jasper specifically is in Australia. Additional Rhyolite deposits are found in China, Germany, Iceland, India, Ireland, and New Zealand.
Rock Family: Rainforest Jasper is not a mineral, but rather a rock. As an easy way to understand the difference, think of rocks as being like cookies and minerals as being the ingredients which make up those cookies. Many different minerals are used to create a rock!
Formation: Despite its name, Rainforest Jasper is not actually a type of Jasper. It is a form of Rhyolite, a type of igneous rock. Rhyolite is a type of extrusive igneous rock, formed on the surface of the earth by molten magma due to a volcanic eruption. There are five types of igneous rocks created by lava: Basalt, Obsidian, Rhyolite, Trachyte, and Andesite. Other types of igneous rocks, such as Granite, are created by processes deep within the earth. Rhyolite is a relatively rare volcanic rock, almost exclusively found in the interiors of continents. Most Rhyolites are porphyritic and contain large Quartz crystals or other varieties of crystals in an extremely fine-grained matrix. This indicates that these crystals were already being formed before the lava flowed onto the surface. Rainforest Jasper is a popular name given to green spotted Rhyolite.
Mining: Mined at its primary deposit, usually found with Obsidian and Pumice.
Enhancements: All varieties of Rhyolite, including Rainforest Jasper, are completely natural, enhanced only by tumbling, cutting, and polishing.

History of Rainforest Jasper
The name “Jasper” is a generic name given to any spotted stone as well as most semi-transparent or opaque Chalcedony. As a result, it can be difficult to know exactly which stone is being referenced in ancient and medieval writings. Rainforest Jasper is a type of predominately green Rhyolite whose specific healing energies have only recently been explored.

Sourcing Relationship
I have been doing business with this source since 2014. They are the oldest tumbling company in the world and have more varieties, in more sizes, than any other known source. The company started in California in the 1950s and was eventually bought by a British immigrant who had young sons. Eventually the company moved to South Africa in order to be closer to the source of their best-selling stone and to have the legal rights to export it. The company is now run by the sons and their childhood best friend.
The current owners visit many small and industrial-size mines personally. For artisanal-mined deposits in sub-Sahara Africa, the owners work with Gem Dealers who deal directly with the part-time miners. The majority of these Gem Dealers are women. Some, but not all, of their stones are labeled with country-of-origin. For those that aren’t, I ask the owners directly. As I’ve learned more about mining practices in individual countries, I have become increasingly selective about what I will purchase from them. However, they remain my preferred source for most of the stones I sell from sub-Sahara Africa.
