Location: While Rose Quartz is found in numerous locations around the globe, Girasol Quartz is a variety of Rose Quartz found exclusively in Madagascar.
Mineral Family: Girasol Quartz is a variety of Rose Quartz, which is in turn a Silicate mineral. Silicate minerals are the largest family of minerals, including more than 25% of all known minerals and 40% of all common minerals. In addition to being a major part of the Earth’s crust, Silicate minerals have also been found on the moon and in meteorites. Silicates are minerals which contain the elements Silicon (a light gray shiny metal) and Oxygen (a colorless gas). Together, these two elements form a tetrahedra – a shape similar to a pyramid – with a Silicon atom in the center and Oxygen atoms at each of the three corners. These tetrahedras connect with other chemical structures, in six different ways, to form various minerals and rocks. There are six main groups of Silicate minerals, and these main groups are further subdivided into secondary subdivisions, such as Quartz and Feldspar. Quartz is a large mineral family in its own right and its members come in every shade of the rainbow. Colorless Quartz is called Clear Quartz or Rock Crystal. Yellow Quartz is Citrine. Green Quartz is Prasiolite. Brown Quartz is Smoky Quartz. Pink Quartz is, of course, Rose Quartz. The most highly prized variety of all is Amethyst, or purple Quartz. Girasol Quartz is a type of Rose Quartz that has a milky or pale orange hue.
Formation: Girasol Quartz is created when liquid magma from a volcanic explosion cools down and transforms into igneous rocks. During this cooling down period, silica acid bubbles shift from being a gas/liquid into a solid compound. The bubble becomes a hollow space in the igneous rock and the silica acid becomes Quartz crystals. Trace particles of iron, manganese, or titanium within the silica acid give Rose Quartz its pink color, otherwise the silica acid would transform into Clear Quartz.
Mining: In a few locations, Rose Quartz is found in large enough deposits to justify commercial mining. More often, Rose Quartz is a secondary mineral found within other commercial mines.
Enhancements: All Rose Quartzes are natural, enhanced only by tumbling, cutting, and polishing.
History of Girasol Quartz
Girasol was “discovered” relatively recently by the metaphysical community and so it was not included in any early lapidaries, texts that describe gemstones and their powers. However, Rose Quartz has been used to make jewelry since long before the dawn of civilization. It is certainly possible that it was also used for healing and spiritual purposes. From this it can be inferred that Girasol Quartz may have been similarly used.

Healing Properties of Girasol Rose Quartz
Spiritual: Girasol Quartz is a powerful stone for anyone on a spiritual path and particularly good for energy healers, such as Reiki practitioners. It encourages our energy to flow freely and to be directed as needed for healing and transformation. Equally important, Girasol Quartz helps energy healers to maintain healthy boundaries and not give away energy indiscriminately. Girasol Quartz is attuned to the Heart (4th) Chakra and linked to the astrological signs of Taurus and Libra. It is connected to the elements of Storm and vibrates to the number 7.
Emotional: Girasol Quartz assists us in understanding and clarifying our feelings, especially ones connected to love or sensuality. It helps us be true to ourselves and to confidently claim our heart’s desire. Girasol Quartz, like other varieties of Rose Quartz, has an incredibly soothing effect on the emotions. From reducing daily worry to healing major emotional trauma, Girasol Quartz is an incredibly versatile healing stone. Girasol Quartz is also very good at helping us create regular self-care rituals and routines which help us remain emotionally healthy and strong.
Mental: Girasol Quartz is a stone for helping us visualize goals that will bring us joy and direct our energies towards that path. It enhances both communication and creativity. Girasol Quartz is especially good for any “wisdompreneur,” a business person working in areas that call for great wisdom, such as therapy, life coaching, psychics, etc. It helps us remain in our integrity and to always choose the path of real love.
Physical: Girasol Quartz is said to be a stabilizing and strengthening stone for the physical heart. It is also commonly used to treat sexual disorders, especially those with a psychosomatic origin. Girasol Quartz may also be used to treat chronic fatigue syndrome, and to help with immune system imbalances.
Always use wisdom when considering crystal therapies for healing.
Earth to Pocket
Earth to Pocket is the Moonrise Crystal business mission. It’s the promise that any stones purchased here will be consciously sourced and the journey of the stone, from the Earth and into your Pocket, will be as transparent as possible.
These Girasol Quartzes were mined in Madagascar and tumbled in South Africa.
I met the owner of the South African tumbling company at the 2014 Gem and Mineral show in Tucson, Arizona. This company only sells tumbled stones twice a year, once at the Tucson show and later at the Sainte Marie Aux Mines International Mineral and Gem Expo in Provence, France. They offer the largest selection of high quality tumbled stones in the industry, and are one of my favorite suppliers.
It would be my pleasure to hand-select a beautiful Girasol Quartz for you.
This price is for one stone. You can buy a single Girasol Quartz or several, depending on your individual needs. Each Girasol Quartz measures approximately 1 inch at its longest length and has a unique shape with soft edges. Girasol is a type of Rose Quartz found exclusively in Madagascar.
The stone I choose for you will be smooth and free of chips, be a beautiful translucent pink with no inclusions, and may have a faint orange glow when in sunlight. If you buy multiple stones, I will choose stones that look and feel particularly good together. Stones will be cleansed and smudged with sage before being shipped to you.
With their beautiful color and clean energies, these Girasol Quartz are perfect for crystal healing. Add them to a medicine bag, place them on an altar, use them in a crystal elixir, fashion them into jewelry, or simply carry them in your pocket.

Safe Handling of Girasol Quartz
Girasol Quartz will quickly lose its color over time if left in direct sunlight. It is always considered a “best practice” to keep your stones and crystals out of direct sunlight as much as possible.
Good To Know:
Girasol Quartz are physically durable stones. As long as they are rounded and without thin edges, they can be carried in a pocket or medicine bag, or worn as jewelry on an everyday basis, without significant danger of the stone chipping or breaking.
Girasol Quartz can be physically cleansed with water or a dusting cloth.
Girasol Quartz can be energetically cleansed using any method. They will appreciate being soaked in fresh water, set outside to absorb the moonlight, and/or being smudged with smoke or incense. Use your own intuition to determine the best method.
Girasol Quartz can be left in sunshine for extended periods of time without losing their color, especially if the stone is opaque, rather than translucent or transparent. However, it is always considered a “best practice” to keep your stones and crystals out of direct sunlight as much as possible.
Tumbled and fully smooth Girasol Quartz can be safely used to make direct-infusion “Girasol Quartz Water” for drinking or bathing. Before making any direct-infusion elixir ALWAYS check the mineralogical properties of the stone to ensure it is not toxic. Only use fully tumbled stones or natural Quartz points in direct-infusion elixirs, never rough stones. When in doubt, make an indirect-infusion elixir instead.
