Mineralogy of Rose Quartz
Mineral Family: Tectosilicate

Location: The most important Rose Quartz deposits are located in Brazil and Madagascar. Additional Rose Quartz deposits are located in India, Mozambique, Namibia, Sri Lanka, and the United States.
Mineral Family: Rose Quartz is the pink variety of Quartz, which is in turn a Silicate mineral. Silicate minerals are the largest family of minerals, including more than 25% of all known minerals and 40% of all common minerals. In addition to being a major part of the Earth’s crust, Silicate minerals have also been found on the moon and in meteorites. Silicates are minerals which contain the elements Silicon (a light gray shiny metal) and Oxygen (a colorless gas). Together, these two elements form a tetrahedra – a shape similar to a pyramid – with a Silicon atom in the center and Oxygen atoms at each of the three corners. These tetrahedras connect with other chemical structures, in six different ways, to form various minerals and rocks. There are six main groups of Silicate minerals, and these main groups are further subdivided into secondary subdivisions, such as Quartz and Feldspar. Quartz is a large mineral family in its own right and its members come in every shade of the rainbow. Colorless Quartz is called Clear Quartz or Rock Crystal. Yellow Quartz is Citrine. Green Quartz is Prasiolite. Brown Quartz is Smoky Quartz. Pink Quartz is, of course, Rose Quartz. The most highly prized variety of all is Amethyst, or purple Quartz.
Formation: Rose Quartz is created when liquid magma from a volcanic explosion cools down and transforms into igneous rocks. During this cooling down period, silica acid bubbles shift from being a gas/liquid into a solid compound. The bubble becomes a hollow space in the igneous rock and the silica acid becomes Quartz crystals. Trace particles of iron, manganese, or titanium within the silica acid give Rose Quartz its pink color, otherwise the silica acid would transform into Clear Quartz.
Mining: In a few locations, Rose Quartz is found in large enough deposits to justify commercial mining. More often, Rose Quartz is a secondary mineral found within other commercial mines.
Enhancements: All Rose Quartz is natural, enhanced only by tumbling, cutting, and polishing.
History of Rose Quartz
Rose Quartz was not included as a distinct mineral in most early lapidaries, texts which describe gemstones and their powers. However archaeological evidence reveals that Rose Quartz has been used to make jewelry since long before the dawn of civilization. The oldest known example are Rose Quartz beads found in Mesopotamia (Iraq) which have dated to around 7000 BCE!
The earliest lapidary reference to Rose Quartz is from the Roman Era, where the pink gem was used as a seal to signify ownership in Italy and purportedly also believed to prevent aging in Egypt. Rose Quartz was not specifically mentioned again in European lapidaries until the modern era.
Native American tribes occasionally carved amulets out of Rose Quartz, which they referred to as the “love stone.” According to reports, the tribes believed that Rose Quartz helped to balance the emotions, soften anger, and ease disappointment.

Spiritual: Rose Quartz is an incredibly powerful stone which evokes unconditional love and compassion. When held during prayer or meditation Rose Quartz dissolves boundaries, allowing us to more fully embrace divine union and Nirvana. Rose Quartz is a particularly suitable stone for anyone who is devoted to a heart-centered spiritual master, such as Jesus Christ, Kwan Yin, or Amma. Rose Quartz is attuned to the Heart Chakra and linked to the astrological signs of Taurus, Libra. It is connected to the element of Water and Fire and vibrates to the number 7.

Ultimately, Rose Quartz teaches us to always always always choose the path of real love.
Physical: Rose Quartz is said to be a stabilizing and strengthening stone for the physical heart. It is also commonly used to treat sexual disorders, especially those with a psychosomatic origin. Rose Quartz may also be used to treat a variety of illnesses in infants and small children.

Earth to Pocket
Earth to Pocket is the Moonrise Crystal business mission. It’s the promise that any stones purchased here will be consciously sourced and the journey of the stone, from the Earth and into your Pocket, will be as transparent as possible.
These Rose Quartzes were mined in Namibia and tumbled in South Africa.
I met the owner of the South African tumbling company at the 2014 Gem and Mineral show in Tucson, Arizona. This company only sells tumbled stones twice a year, once at the Tucson show and later at the Sainte Marie Aux Mines International Mineral and Gem Expo in Provence, France. They offer the largest selection of high quality tumbled stones in the industry and are one of my favorite suppliers.
It would be my pleasure to hand-select a beautiful Rose Quartz for you.
This price is for one stone. You can buy a single Rose Quartz or several, depending on your individual needs. Each Rose Quartz measures approximately 1 inch at its longest length and has a unique shape with soft edges.
The stone I choose for you will be smooth and free of chips, and be a beautiful translucent pink, with virtually no inclusions, and possibly rainbows. If you buy multiple stones, I will choose stones that look and feel particularly good together. Stones will be cleansed and smudged with sage before being shipped to you.
With their beautiful color and clean energies, these Rose Quartzes are perfect for crystal healing. Add them to a medicine bag, place them on an altar, use them in a crystal elixir, fashion them into jewelry, or simply carry them in your pocket.
Safe Handling of Rose Quartz
Rose Quartz will quickly lose its color over time if left in direct sunlight. It is always considered a “best practice” to keep your stones and crystals out of direct sunlight as much as possible.
Good To Know:
Rose Quartz are physically durable stones. As long as they are rounded and without thin edges, they can be carried in a pocket or medicine bag, or worn as jewelry on an everyday basis, without significant danger of the stone chipping or breaking.
Rose Quartz can be physically cleansed with water or a dusting cloth.
Rose Quartz can be energetically cleansed using any method. They will appreciate being soaked in fresh water, set outside to absorb the moonlight, and/or being smudged with smoke or incense. Use your own intuition to determine the best method.
Tumbled and fully smooth Rose Quartz can be safely used to make direct-infusion “Rose Quartz Water” for drinking or bathing. Before making any direct-infusion elixir ALWAYS check the mineralogical properties of the stone to ensure it is not toxic. Only use fully tumbled stones or natural Quartz points in direct-infusion elixirs, never rough stones. When in doubt, make an indirect-infusion elixir instead.
