Mineralogy of Tiger Iron
Color: Stripes of gold, silver and red
Gravity: Varies, 2.58-5.28
Hardness: Varies, 5.5-7
Location: Tiger Iron has been found in large enough quantities to be mined in Western Australia and South Africa.
Rock Family: Tiger Iron is not a mineral, but rather a rock. An easy way to understand the difference is that rocks are like cookies and minerals are ingredients like flour or sugar. Many different minerals are used to create a rock! In the case of Tiger Iron, it is a sedimentary rock composed of layers of Gold Tigers Eye, Red Jasper, and silver Hematite.
Formation: Tiger Iron is a sedimentary rock, formed when various minerals or other materials are deposited on the Earth’s surface and within bodies of water. Over time the sediments are glued together into layers that can sometimes be seen with the naked eye.
Mining: Tiger Iron is found near the surface of the Earth and is mined at its primary deposit.
Enhancements: All Tiger Iron are fully natural, enhanced only through tumbling, cutting, and polishing.
Synonyms: MuggleStone, Harry Potter Stone
History of Tiger Iron
Tiger Iron is a combination of three different minerals, each of which has their own distinct history. Tiger Iron itself, however, is a relatively “new” healing stone whose properties have only recently begun to be explored. As a result, it was not included in early lapidaries, texts which describe gemstones and their powers, nor does it have any myths or historical references unique to it. This stone has been found in only two locations. When mined in South Africa it is called “Tiger Iron,” but when mined in western Australia it is called “Mugglestone.”
While fans of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter might automatically think the name “mugglestone” is linked to the books, the name actually predates the series. Mugglestone is an old Anglo-Saxon surname usually found in the western midlands of England. The name was first recorded in the 1086 Domesday Book, a population census taken by William the Conqueror after he claimed England. Various people named Mugglestone have emigrated to Australia in the past two centuries, including some which set up mining operations in the western part of that country. Despite this long history, the success of the Harry Potter franchise is such that this stone has now been nicknamed “Harry Potter Stone.”

Healing Properties of Tiger Iron
Spiritual: Tiger Iron combines the energies of Gold Tigers Eye, Red Jasper, and silver Hematite into one vibrant healing stone. It is a phenomenal lower Chakra stone and can help form or rebuild a strong energetic foundation. Tiger Iron pulses with vitality and the primal life force, reminding us that we are ALIVE! We are Here – Now – and the possibilities before us are endless. Tiger Iron teaches us to take actions which support our spiritual ideals. It reminds us that our religion is not a church we attend once a week, our true religion is how we live every day – how we treat others and how we treat ourselves. Tiger Iron is attuned to the Root, Sacral, and Solar Plexus Chakras and linked to the astrological sign of Leo. It is connected to the elements of Fire and Earth and vibrates to the number 7.
Emotional: Tiger Iron is a strong, steady stone that makes it particularly helpful during times of crisis. Tiger Iron helps us to stay calm and to look at situations objectively. Tiger Iron can also help us see the link between our physical body and our current emotional states. To see how our diet, exercise, sleep patterns, social habits, etc., all play a role in how we feel emotionally. Tiger Iron can help us to look at chronic anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, and other mental illnesses in a different light. To see these illnesses as a physical misfiring in the brain, rather than a weakness in our mind or a weakness in ourselves. Tiger Iron encourages us to be practical, to seek out help as appropriate, and to create physical and mental habits that will naturally result in a happier and more peaceful life. Tiger Iron is also particularly good to work with during times of family drama or stress. It helps us to stay logical and reasonable; compassionate to others and yet firm in maintaining our own boundaries.
Mental: Tiger Iron has a very grounded, calm, and steady energy. It encourages creativity, but also the necessity of regular practice and continuing education to hone our creative skills and talents. Tiger Iron is particularly helpful for musicians and performing artists who need to work on their craft daily. Tiger Iron can also help us to quit negative addictions, by reminding us to take things one day at a time. It reminds us to celebrate the small victories as they come and to be patient with ourselves as we reinvent ourselves. Tiger Iron reinforces good habits, particularly ones dealing with creating or maintaining physical and mental health. It is also an excellent stone to work with when we need to rebuild our financial life.
Physical: Tiger Iron is used by metaphysical healers to strengthen the blood and support the circulatory system. It is believed to help stimulate red blood cell production and to encourage self-healing from chronic illnesses. It is also said to strengthen and heal bones. Tiger Iron makes an excellent talisman for body-builders and athletes, because it is said to build muscles and increase physical performance.

Safe Handling of Tiger Iron
Good To Know:
Tiger Iron are physically durable stones. As long as they are rounded and without thin edges, they can be carried in a pocket or medicine bag, or worn as jewelry on an everyday basis, without significant danger of the stone chipping or breaking.
Tiger Iron can be physically cleansed with water or a dusting cloth.
Tiger Iron can be energetically cleansed using any method. They will appreciate being soaked in fresh water, set outside to absorb the moonlight, and/or being smudged with smoke or incense. Use your own intuition to determine the best method.
Tiger Iron can be left in sunshine for extended periods of time without losing their color, especially if the stone is opaque, rather than translucent or transparent. However, it is always considered a “best practice” to keep your stones and crystals out of direct sunlight as much as possible.
Tumbled and fully smooth Tiger Iron can be safely used to make direct-infusion “Tiger Iron Water” for drinking or bathing. Before making any direct-infusion elixir ALWAYS check the mineralogical properties of the stone to ensure it is not toxic. Only use fully tumbled stones or natural Quartz points in direct-infusion elixirs, never rough stones. When in doubt, make an indirect-infusion elixir instead.
